Oopsdabassist Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 With apologies to Waynepunkdude for nicking his title. I present my very 1st bass, An Indonesian Squier P/J, which over the next few weeks, with lots of input from TimAl (who's doing all the hard work) will hopefully be transformed into a steampunk/War of the Worlds themed monster! here she sits, stripped back and ready for Tim to go to work, there have been other threads recently on the exact process, all I know is Tim sticks on pages from a graphic novel I came across that I liked, adds a custom pickguard and headstock logo. I'll add the electrics and then......we shall see. Quote

Oopsdabassist Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 I'm still debating if that pickguard is too busy on the background, I may swap it out for a plain one and put that pickguard on my Mexican P instead...we shall see. Any thoughts appreciated Quote
gilmour Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I love the concept but was also finding the pick guard a little busy. (Although on a plain bass it would look all kinds of awesome). I'd go for something a little plainer. If it's Steampunk I'd also avoid any plastic TBH, maybe copper, leather or wood? Quote
ColinB Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 How about a transparent p/g.... the copper shielding would be very Steampunk..... or a copper p/g? Quote
d-basser Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Brown leather or worn brass pick guard would be brilliant, love the bass by the way. Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 thanks all....hmmm transparent..now THERE'S an idea! Quote

d-basser Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Leather one should be easy enough to make, friend and I did one for a build and found that a sheet of leather with copper foil shielding on the back held its shape well enough to be cut to size and fitted. Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 Thanks for all the feedback guys, for now I have just swapped the plates on my 2 P's, which I think works quite well Quote
tommorichards Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) the steampunk plate definitely suits the white p bass Maybe a brass one for the steampunk bass? Edited December 20, 2014 by tommorichards Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Thanks, yeah it def suits the plain lighter colour, A brass or beaten copper one is in my sights for the other. Quote

Oopsdabassist Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) The guard or the artwork? TimAl of this very parish makes the guards for a very reasonable price, the pic just came of t'internet and we did a bit of photoshopping to get the right effect. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/247112-scratch-it-original-scratchplates-pickguards-to-your-design/page__p__2610382__hl__timal__fromsearch__1#entry2610382 Edited December 22, 2014 by Oopsdabassist Quote
Marc S Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Wow, this bass looks great I first thought a transparent pickguard would look good too .... but I do like the look of the white one too.... Great logo too Quote
