ras52
Scanning some old photos and this pops up: I recall it sounded like a beast and weighed a ton!
gjones
I heard one a couple of years ago, it sounded fantastic.

megallica
I don't think they made these in 1984 I did own an RS924 which sounded and played great wasn't too light either. I think the roadster became the Roadstar in 1982 or 1983?

ras52
I'd love one of these.
So would I! Definitely one for the "ones that got away" folder, although my shoulders wouldn't be up to gigging with it. Thinking further (back...), I think I got it around 1981. Further rummaging of band photos may provide further clues!

FlatEric
Nice! It's an RS 900 - also famously used by Phil Lynott. Got some pics somewhere, will dig them out later. A really great bass - they are a bit weighty but balance very well and are a joy to play. This is mine. LeftyJ
Awesome stuff! I've never played one (no lefties available) but I did get to play the twin pickup version once (the RS920) and it was an amazing instrument. I love my RS924 and my MC924's, I hope I'll never have to sell them
Bassassin
You can date a late 70s//80s MIJ Ibanez from the serial number - The first character represents the month: A=January, B - February etc, the next two numbers are the year and the remaining digits are the production number for the month. I think this one's likely to be '79/'80 - the RS900 doesn't seem to have been around for long. Roadster became Roadstar II in 1981 according to the old catalogue archive - anecdotally "Roadstar" was a misprint/Japlish mistranslation that stuck, should've been "Roadster II"! My RS924 is a lovely bass & a definite keeper. A bit heavy & tonally inflexible (can't blend the pickups) to be gigged very often, but a great bass to record with & pretty much irreplaceable these days. Jon.
