stingrayfan
I'm toying with the idea of swapping the stock pickup in my Stingray for an aftermarket one. One reason's just to experiment, the other's that I really don't like the pole pieces sticking up on the stock one. Would much prefer a "flat" soapbar type of pickup. I'd also be wanting to heat things up soundwise rather than cool them down. Also, my Ray suffers from the "quiet G-string" syndrome - and fairly low output. I'd be hoping a new p/u would remedy that to some extent too. Anyone got opinions about what I should get please? Kev
i personally think that the stock stingray pickup is better than any of the drop ins iv heard the only none exposed pole piece pickup i can think of is the bart, which apparantly dont have the stingray growl
markytbass
What about Lane Poor, I think they're hard to get hold of but they don't have exposed poles
Machines
I read that the quiet G string is down to the preamp rather than pickup... don't expect me to back this up with a link though . EDIT: Oh go on then... http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-...t-g-string.html Looks like rubbish then ! stingrayfan
Anyone got/had a Nordstrand? Are the pole pieces flush? That would be ok. Mine stick up too much. So to speak.
Machines
Tonyf had one in his Sterling.. I would say they stuck up much less than my stock pickup does. You can always PM poptart and he might be able to let you know .
simon1964
the only none exposed pole piece pickup i can think of is the bart, which apparantly dont have the stingray growl
EMG do a MM pickup with non-exposed pole pieces. No idea what it sounds like though.
Delberthot
Villex do one as well without the exposed poles
Lfalex v1.1
I have a Duncan MMHB in one of my basses (A Zoot) it has exposed polepieces, but the G and E poles are flush with the housing, and the D and A only protrude by about 1mm. That said, I don't suffer with my stock SR5, and they stick out miles!
