big rob
Hi All, I have an Alembic MK and love it and would not get rid of it ever, however i am not sure if mine has the tonal variety that it should. So i am wondering, when i open the control cavity there are some adjustable pots in there, what do these do? and would adjusting them change any parameter? Don't get me wrong the tone is great and i can dial in the tones i need. However as stated there does not seem to be the massive range of tones people suggest you can get (or maybe there is and my expectation of massive range is different to there's). jazzyvee
Hi in those basses there are two internal blue trim pots. They adjust the gain from the two pre-amps one for neck and bridge. If you have them both the same then with the pan pot in the middle the bass puts out equall gain for each pickup. However by adjusting them differently you can choose to bias your sound towards either one of the pickups. I have two alembics with that signature electronics package and they do offer a massive amount of tonal variety and it is very obvious. I'd suggest putting in a fresh battery then set both trim pots on max and switch the Q switches on ( usually this is switching towards the floor). Then turn the pan to bridge pickup individually pluck a string and immediately turn the filter for that pickup. You should hear a wah envelope sound as the knob opens and closes. Do the same on the neck pickup. The effect of the switch operates mainly on the attack of the note so you will notice less of an effect If you turn the knobs on a long sustaining note. If you don't get the wah sound then you may have a problem with the electronics or switches.
