Interesting, I've never played with the internal pots on mine. I've never had your problem either though

I'd recommend using a permanent marker to mark the factory setting before you moves 'em.

I removed the internal trimpots on mine and made them external. Spent ages trying to get a useable sound and failed! I did notice a bit of distortion on the sweep but dialing it out produced more weirdness. Gave up.
