hamfist
WITHDRAWN - sorry Ampeg SVP Pro preamp, recently bought from BC's Jacko. This is just one of those pieces of kit that I had always wanted to try to "get it out of my system". Now that I have it, it is clearly a great preamp but it's just not going to displace my current rig. So time for someone else to have a go. It would be a waste if it wasn't being used. It's in very decent shape for a 90's preamp (serial number dates it as 1994). A bit of buckle rash on the top and the bass knob has taken a little bang at some point so is not quite straight, but still works smoothly and accurately. As far as I can tell everything works perfectly. It comes with a two switch footswitch and a stereo lead to switch the graphic EQ and mute on/off. I have not used the FX loop so cannot comment on it. A very impressive range of EQ and drive are available. Not a high gain unit but still capable of a decent lower gain old school fuzz if that's your cup of tea. Also does, cleany clean if you want that too, and everything inbetween. A very wide range of output using the master volume knob so will be compatible with virtually any power amp or FX return of a head. I used it into the FX return of my GK 1001RB and it sounded great. What you all want to know is ...... is it a quiet one or a damned annoying noisy one, as some of these units are. Well, I'm glad to say that the noise floor is very low. There is no noise issue at all. I have done a couple of soundclips of it (via the preamp out) and you can clearly hear that there is no XS noise/hum/hiss between the playing whatsoever. There has been no noise-gating whatsoever on these clips. In fact, there has been no EQ, compression or any other effect on them, simply the tone that came out of the preamp out socket. There is a few seconds of hum when you switch the unit on, as the transformers and valves get up to temp, which settles very quickly. Very normal in valve gear, and there are 5 valves in this preamp. Classic dirty Ampeg tone, without the weight ! Price is a very reasonable £319 posted to you in mainland UK, or a bit less to collect near Southampton. No trades please. Soundclips made by me of this very preamp .....
