icastle
Some nice ideas here, and it's not outside of the realms of possibility in the future perhaps, but we have to be realistic. To sort the data into model types would require people to enter that information in the first place. It's hard enough just getting people to enter a sane valuation price. Marc S
I'm perfectly happy to continue paying for posting ads After all, it helps support BC Re subdividing into price brackets For me, I like to browse anyhow, and banding basses into different brackets might mean I miss something I wouldn't have been thinking about So I'd personally rather it stays the same Except maybe the ability to filter out 4, 5, or 6 strings - depending on what I'm looking for..... miles'tone
Nah, keep it as it is and just scroll through. It's not hard and you can sometimes find some nice surprises that way.
wateroftyne
Nope to subdivisions - there are too many as it is, and one man's 'upper budget' range is another man's 'lower mid-range' etc. Stuff will fall into the cracks.

KevB
If folks always included the term '5 string bass' in the description i would have thought the search engine at the top of the page would pull most of them out without having to go through all the 4's as well or doesn't it work? Dad3353
As a help for browsing, is it safe to assume that all are aware of the 'Custom' filter facility, to be seen in the black bar just above the very first post on the Marketplace pages..? One may restrict visibility to only 'Open' ads, thus hiding in one fell swoop all the 'Sold' ads. Just sayin', hope this helps.
Cairobill
It's pretty clear to me that if you don't want to browse a bunch of basses that are not what you are after, use the SEARCH function. BetaFunk
The main change for me is that not too many sell nowadays. Plenty of tyre kickers but not many wanting to part with any cash.

Any mention of '5 string' (as in "I'd buy this in a shot if it was a 5 string") results in the topic being listed.
Quite so. But once one is in the 'Search Results' the default forum in the search box sneakily becomes 'all forums', thus necessitating a swift about-face to the 'For Sale' section before recommencing one's quest. This is one of the charming idiosyncrasies of the forum, along with the prof filter's inability to deal with the adjective 'sw*nky'. One wonders if the anti-swearing machine were programmed by Mr Derek Nimmo in his persona of The Reverend Mervyn Noote, chaplain to the bishop of St Ogg's Bishop: Ah ha! Annoying Twit
Is it related to the introduction of fees? (I realise this discussion has probably been had already). The meat and potatoes stuff can often sell quite easily through free local adverts, so perhaps sellers are trying there first while the guys selling more specialised or higher end instruments see the benefits of advertising here rather more.
I've noted that there are fewer cheap basses on sale here since fees were introduced. If you're selling a bass for £50, then £7 is a fair chunk of that. Particularly since there's no guarantee of a sale. I'm not worried about there being fewer cheap basses here. There are still ebay/gumtree/etc.

Maybe if I went back and counted, the numbers of cheap ones might not have changed.
