Clarky
Sharing a video of the great Oscar Pettiford that Geoffbassist posted on his Facebook bass column, Discover Double Bass. Just look how huge his gut D (especially) and G are (the E/A are wrapped gut) but most of all ... what a beautiful tone. As close to chocolate as a double bass can sound IMHO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7da4WkFqE2g&feature=youtu.be

spencer.b
wow, what a sound. Such a shame very few players use guts for jazz these days, they're a pain in the ass but it's worth it , go on try it ( i love my gamuts )
gypsyjazzer
No worry about amps / pickups in those days---magic sounds!
alexpea
Thanks for sharing! This video persuaded me to dig out my old gut strings this afternoon and stick them back on my bass. I've now got plain Cordes guts on the D & G which match rather nicely with my Innovation Braided Honeys on the E & A strings. Just gotta learn to play like Oscar now... TPJ
What a DB should sound like. Watching him play comforts me in my less than orthodox technique.
