Les Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I have 100 on the Mustang at the minute but always had 95 on my Stingray. Would like to try a later guage on the short scale (if I can find them) but would be interested in anyones exprience's/opinions on this. Les Quote
pfretrock Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 A few discussed here, but flats only. http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__2589317 Quote
Les Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 ta for that, I tried a set of Thomastik flats for a month and decided I'd go back to rounds. Quote
jezzaboy Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I just stuck a set of Nickel wound Daddario EXL160M on my Pawn shop Mustang. They are medium scale, 50.70,85, 105. I haven`t had the chance to play it loud through an amp yet but they seem ok. Got them from Strings direct for £19. Quote
EssentialTension Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 With short scale, subject to the construction of the string, a slightly heavier gauge is usually a better bet. If you use same gauge (and make etc.) as on long scale then the strings will be floppier and if you go lighter gauge then floppier still. Quote
Les Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 Bugger Just pulled the trigger on these http://www.stringsdi...ale-p1150/s1192 I'll report back if anyone's remotely interested. zero9 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I use 30-90 rotosounds on a 32 inch scale reso bass, however, it does have a di marzio humbucker near the neck. No problem with floppyness or low end response. Quote
Chiliwailer Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I'm with Essential on this one. I used short scales for years, always using long scale 45-105 to get some kick into the bass. Light definietly = floppy, short scales could do without that IMO. Guess it depends on your bass and style though, worth trying all angles and maybe the looser sound will suit you? The Roto's are cheap enough to be worth a punt. Quote
casapete Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Use D'Addario 45-100 shorties on my Danelectro Longhorn, perfect gauge for feel/tone IMO. Quote
Les Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 Just got them and fiited them, can't say they feel floppy or looser to be honest. Sound nice and bright, as new strings do. Rehearsing tonight so that will be the test. Quote
