They are just three great friends making music they love. If you don't like the music that's not a problem, enough of us do love it, enough to keep them going. In fact, they've never been more successful in terms of sell out tours.

There's not much earlier footage of them around that shows them at their best, and Geddy's voice is shredded on the more recent stuff. Natural Science probably sums them up for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7W0Nm8iHwk Edited January 4, 2015 by icastle Link Fixed. I signed up on the Permanent Waves tour - Deeside Leisure Centre, June 1980. Rick all the way!!!!!!!
Sorry, I can't agree. I think they were doing their best work at that point. I didn't see them in 1980 but that's when I got into them too, my mate lent me Hemispheres and it changed my world.

I know I certainly was.
i weren't , I've been playing bass 30 odd years, a few people told me to listen to some Rush stuff but i didn't want to know being heavily into punk, i heard spirit of radio on radio 2 about 5 yrs ago and was blown away, .. This also happens to be a good choice when Geddy's singing ability is questioned, because it's a great example of his singing talents. This song is called "Available Light." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsjeQdEXOD4 Edited January 4, 2015 by icastle Link Fixed

I've listened to the 'Permanent Waves' album since and it's good, but not really 'my thing'. One thing that does shine through though is that they're thoroughly enjoying themselves and not just 'doing it' because that's 'what they do'. spongebob
Big Rush fan here, love it all. Saw them at the 02 on the last tour, thoroughly enjoyed it. I love how they've progressed. In fact, the albums I probably listen to the least are the earlier, screechier ones! Still love 'em, though. Probably in the minority here - but I've no issue with Ged's current tone. Like the '7 Cities' clip above, fantastically growly. It's unmistakeably Ged, as much as the Ric days. I far prefer it to the Wal or the Steinberger! Simple or complex... Rush have done it all in their extensive forty year back catalogue, and to be fair not even every Rush fan loves everything they've done!! A personal favourite of mine (in one of their lighter moments). Understated bass and drums, and a lovely guitar solo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLTFbtOfmxk And, in a completely different style, a bombastic blues-rock ballad from their first album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXSCm_4ND3g Edited January 5, 2015 by icastle Links Fixed. toneknob
For me it's The Camera Eye, originally on Moving Pictures, here from the Time Machine tour... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc1YPRbkWQA I love the guitar tone on the solo, Geddy's vocals obviously struggling though. ubit
Maybe not the same night I was there then, thought the mix was dreadful for first 20-30 minutes until someone got their finger out. Good performance though, it was the first opportunity for me to see them live, I'd been unable to make the Signals tour due to college work.
I've seen them at the S.E.C.C. a few times and that place is renowned for having a rotten sound. Also seen them at Ingleston in Edinburgh many moons ago and the sound was bloody awful, but I'm sure it was the venues fault and not the bands sound man. Both venues never stopped me having the time of my life seeing my heroes live!
ubit
There's far too many songs from a 40 year career to try and get a non believer into Rush in just a few pages of a forum. The camera eye undoubtedly is amazing and comes from my favourite album , but it's the instrumentals that for me, show the sheer awesomeness of those guys musical abilities http://youtu.be/WddSQVTwj_Y

Iain
YYZ is something I aspire to play well one day. I find it's impossible to pick a favourite - you can list some then someone will say "yeah, but what about..." and you kick yourself. There isn't an album without merit - there are touches of genius everywhere. Subdivisions is a track I look forwards to every tour for example - great lyrics and the mood of the song always gets to me.
