mickcope
Any suggestions for a bass battery combo - that has magical combination of small size, low weight and long battery life? Ta Mick
CamdenRob
There is a small roland one that seems to get reasonable press... it's name escapes me... The thing is - I doubt lightweight, small and long battery life are going to be your problem. A battery powered amp that makes your bass actually sound like a bass is going to be the problem. All the small battery combos are going to produce a nasty honky clank. Edited November 4, 2014 by CamdenRob

dannybuoy
Search for 'battery powered amps' on here and there's quite a few options - this one looks good in particular as you could amplify a whole band and it comes with a built in trolley as well as costing peanuts: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Qtx-QR10PA-portable-PA/dp/B009L4KZ8I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373654107&sr=8-1&keywords=qtx+qr10pa
mcnach
I bought one of these last summer: https://www.proaudiocentre.com/shop/audio-equipment/pa-systems/portable-pa-systems/products/qtx-qr10pa-portable-pa-system.html?gclid=CLa-0ILT5sECFUXnwgodKg4A2g And it's a pretty cool solution. It's not going to compete with my Genz Benz, but I get a decent bass sound (used a Precision and Stingray with it), it charges fast and lasts several hours (up to 8, it says, but I never had to use it for over 3h or so), it's small, light, easy to carry, and it allows you to plug in an mp3 player or play songs from a USB stick if you wanted to. The wireless mic/headphones that comes with it is a toy, ignore it, but as a busking bass amp is pretty good. Two inputs too, although only one volume, so you'd have to insert an EQ pedal or something in between for one to have independent volume... but I only use one input normally. I used the second for my drummer's cajon once, but we really needed a second volume control. I use this in a band with a drummer (cajon, or basic kit - snare, hihats), 3 electric guitarists (using Roland battery operated guitar amps), two trumpets and a sax... and I am never lacking volume, or stamina (the Rolands started dying once an mine was going on...). There is a 12" speaker version for little more...

BTW I use a Roland mobile cube for busking, acoustic guitar and vocals, I have tried bass through it and it does sound better than you'd expect considering it's only got 2 x 4" speakers but I wouldn't think it could compete volume wise with anything other than an unamplified acoustic guitar, although I did get told to turn down once by a community copper, one of the shops nearby had complained I was too loud

It's a loud little beast.
