Owen
In my continuing theme (http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2429742) of mating Shuker bodies to other necks I picked this up http://basschat.co.u...uker-bass-body/ It is a single slab of solid woody goodnes. I bought in a fit of excitement but have by now decided what I need to do with it. It is a 4 string body but Dave (Nugget - Firecreek Basses) is going to rout the neck pocket out to take a 33" scale 5 string neck. I have a Shuker 5 Uberhorn with a 33" neck and really like it (having been Mr 35" scale for many years). The neck will be a 5 piece laminate quarter sawn maple neck. We discussed darker woods in there, but I really am not a huge fan of the stripy neck thing, but the 5 piece laminate will in theory make it very rigid enabling a B which will be part of the rest of the instrument rather than a sludgy afterthought. It will be a slim neck with a pretty flat Rosewood board. The headstock will be a scaled down MM style with a 3+2 arrangement. It will have Luminlay side markers but no front ones I have two Fralin J5 pickups which I have failed to sell on here so I will stick those in a couple of MM5 shells and have Dave rout the present pickup holes out. I have just bought some cheap and cheerful Gotoh-alike black machine heads on ebay and I have a 5 string bridge (17mm) with piezo saddles in my collection of parts which I saving for just the right occasion. I will have the option of hooking up the piezo later on. Who knows? There is also a D tuner in the parts bin so that will go on as well. The bridge will cover the 4 string gubbins at the front but the 4 holes will still be visible at the back. I really don't care I do not need another bass so this will be (nominally) my daughter's bass. This means I get to put it together and not feel guilty. I will flog the black early Tokai PJ in a J body she uses at the moment which should cover most of the cost. I hope.

Owen
And then I saw a Rosewood (I think) neck in the Alpher Instruments build thread in the Affiliates Forum and being a wood grain junkie have decided that I have to have a rosewood/rosewood neck/fingerboard. The thread is here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248992-alpher-builds-in-progress-15-off-until-2015/. I will not link to the individual picture cos I think everyone should look at the whole thread. There is some truly scrumptious woodwork going on there and it is well worth a few minutes of your time.
scojack
Going to be a beaut m8, love the rosewood idea (going to do something similar myself soon ). They are doing some seriously tasty stuff at Alpher . Looking forward to this ... Ian

Owen
It is a cracking piece of wood. I know you are a man who recognises a cracking piece of wood when you see one! I will also have a big, fat pickup cover which will be made out of the same piece of wood as the neck/fingerboard which will house the 2 x Fralin J5 things as well as acting as a ramp thang. The MM5 idea is not as lush as more lovely rosewood.

Owen
Different angles of the piece of Rosewood which will be the neck + fingerboard. The same piece of wood will be used to create a big one piece pickup cover which will house both J pickups in a big box. PlungerModerno
Sweet. . . what an exquisite piece of rosewood. Will you apply a finish? I feel it would look even better with a medium to high gloss finish. Especially for the headstock and fingerboard!
