molan
I keep getting this email: "Brown haired bassist wanted for hard rock band. Long hair. Over 22." That's it, the entire message I wonder if they get many replies. . . Edited November 6, 2014 by molan
BigRedX
If the band has an image then how you look is going to be as important as how you play. Besides, if you really want to gig there's always hair dye.

discreet
'Over 22' is quite refreshing. I certainly qualify there. paul_5
Over 22" hair? That's nearly 2 feet! Edited November 6, 2014 by paul_5
seashell
I have actually gone from light blonde to dark blonde/brown since playing bass. I somehow didn't feel rock n roll enough with the light blonde hair. I looked like Gloria Hunniford on bass, lol! I know it's shallow, but I think if I look right I play better. Like a kid with new ballet shoes really. I've never grown out of that need to 'dress up'.

FinnDave
I'd qualify, I've got long dark brown hair and I'm definitely over 22. So is my youngest daughter!

flyfisher
Nearly two feet would be correct on the basis of the average number of feet per person being slightly less than two. OTOH, that would mean the majority of people turning up for the audition somewhat over-qualified in the feet department. Statistics eh? HowieBass
Does the brown hair have to be on your head? It's getting a bit thin there but well, there are other parts...

I've invested a lot of $$$s in gear and gigging threads. It get's back to whatever your own personal philosophy is. At the bar level, for me it's "never look like the patrons , look like your in a rock band". For some guys it doesn't matter. At some of the higher levels of gigging things change and it doesn't matter as much. Does anyone care what Eric Clapton wears to a gig, probably not. However, if I go see the Stones, I want to see some cool threads. Blue

For "cool" DB gigs I prefer to dress up a bit more and look like a performer. At the higher levels though, there are plenty of bands who've made it big at least partly by dressing like their audience. Status Quo from about '71 onwards are possibly the perfect example, but then so was pretty much all of UK punk.
