Clarky72
So Sandberg owners... do you know how flexible they are on the configurator? Would they make this? Also can they do an overspray look on the aged finishes does anyone know? Like this, but black over white. I had a custom made VM5 one for me in wich i asked for vintage tinted neck and they were happy to do that for me. The bass was wonderfull but i ended up selling it because if i could have had a chance to try one beforehand i would have ordered it with 3 band EQ - the VM's sound is very classical, a bit scooped, and i like to have a bit of mid bark on my sound. molan
I've played quite a few Sandbergs and they seem to be universally good. I guess my criticism, and I'm being picky here, is that not many of them have been particularly 'special'. It's difficult to really put my finger on it but I've not ever really been inspired by any of them. I pick them up, play them, think they are pretty good and then put them straight down again. There's been a couple of exceptions but this has been my general feeling across quite a lot of basses. Of course there's nothing wrong with this - being universally well made and sounding solid is a great thing for an everyday working bass. I'd definitely recommend them as good all round gigging instruments. The lower priced ones are especially good value for money as well but the higher priced ones can start to look quite expensive if you load them with options. When I see them popping up for sale regularly it does make me wonder if other people have come to the same conclusion - nice bass but not 'special' enough to hang on to? Opticaleye
I think that the "speciallness" of a lot of basses can come down to the characteristics of the individual piece of wood. I've owned a few Fenders in the past and they've varied wildly. The only one I felt was special had a dodgy neck and when I replaced the neck with a stable one the mojo also went. Sandbergs, imo, are very solidly built but I'm not over keen on the Delano pickups personally. My TT4 came alive when I changed to Nordstrand J's. Clarky72
Well thats odd, and compounds my theory of so many Sandbergs turning up. Almost what I wanted has turned up for sale at BassDirect! haha! Sammers
I've definitely seen a Jazz bodied Sandberg with a reverse P & MM PU config before, I might have saved the pic of it as I was looking into it myself before I settled on a standard Jazz type. I'll post it if I find it!
jassbass
Any one tried the califorinia jazz v with jazz pickups not the humbucker?
Paulhauser
Yes I did. A 5 string model, TT5.
Opticaleye
I have an active TT4. Great jazz sound. It's possible to get a more vintage sound out of the Delano pickups by cutting bass and treble on the onboard pre by just a hair. The bridge PU soloed is pure Jaco. I put Nordstrand single coil J's in mine for a less scooped tone and I love them. The bass itself is more even across the fretboard than any Fender Jazz I've tried (or owned). The slightly wider neck at the nut and chunkier neck profile makes it feel less like a Fender though in the case of mine, although I read somewhere that newer Sandbergs have a more uniform skinny profile. My newer Umbo feels more "traditional" IMO
Paulhauser
So I had a TT5 with the two band EQ. Pickups were Delanos. It was with alder boby and maple board. It was my first modern jazzbass and quite liked it. The neck was comfortable, the stringspacing as well, only it was a tad bit heavy. Quality was really good and it had a feeling of a well made instrument. After I got my Sadowsky I sold it but still hold these basses in high regard. I think if someone is on the market for an active 5 string jazzbass kind of instrument, Sandbergs are one of the best bet in this price range. rungles
Sandberg are the schnitzel! (See what I did there?). A few other manufacturers should be taking note of their build ethos and pricing in my opinion. An Ida Neilsen signature model is on my Xmas list
