Anyone joined up? I don't think I could risk it... I already spend far too much time on BC, there aren't enough hours in my day for another bass forum.

Is it any good? looks similar but much bigger?

The thing I quite like about BC is that due to the relitively small number of regular contributers I've got to know people on here, as in who likes what etc. I kind of know how different people will react to various threads... I assume Talkbass is too big for this and lacks the familiarity of BC?

Yes, I joined up in 2010... it is far, far bigger than BC though and anything you post becomes lost in the general traffic quite quickly.
Which can be a good thing, obviously.

It is very useful indeed for finding out information about the more esoteric and unknown details of bass ephemera though... a simple search will bring up reams and reams of information on almost any subject you can think of.

So I use it more as a fount of knowledge rather a social or community site. And you do have to filter out the crazies a bit more... as usual there are a lot of opinions put forward as fact, so you get quite good at seeking out the truth...

Maybe I'll give it a go... I'm not convinced it would be the same without knowing a little about the personality of people who post, it puts peoples comments in context if you've learnt a little about them from their previous posts.

To be honest the personalities of people who post here are largely a mystery. You only see what people want you to see and the web persona and the real meatspace guy who people actually know are two different entities.

The big problem is this: if you get into TB as well as BC you will get NO SLEEP and become even more ostracised than you are now.

I'm on TB. All I look at are the Basses, Amps and Basses For Sale threads.

It's a good source of info, although a few good and knowledgeable members are posting less these days.

Which is a shame.

I have an account over there but I agree..it is too big and also too anal, and full of trolls or flamers.
It is a shame as there are a few very knowledgeable types over there but they are few and far between
and not sure they post there much now anyway.
And woe betide if they don't agree with a point, but there you go...

I haven't been there for months and can't say I feel the need.
I don't even find it the place of any decent reference anymore. oh well, no biggie.

Sometimes I think an idea that starts out as a 'community' learns there are other pressures
and distractions and they cease to be the place that attracted the people that made them good
in the first place. It happens..

I joined TB before BC. I like TB because it is so much more active. You can post a thread and go away for 24 hours and when you get back, you are almost guaranteed to have replies, and most likely your question will have been resolved. I mainly only come to BC for the classifieds, and once every couple of weeks or so I venture into the other sections. BC is like the quiet local shop, where everyone knows everyone, but they don't have a massive selection of stuff, whereas TB is like a huge hypermarket, which can be a bit overwhelming and has more stuff than you would ever need, but you don't end up doing half of your shopping online.

I started on TB and then migrated to BC (best move ever!) it has a much bigger member list but is so vitriolic at times that some of the Off Topic debates here here seem like one of Jane Austen's tea parties.

Personally I find Basschat quite a bit friendlier though... sometimes the threads on TB can veer off into unexpected (and interesting) directions.

I have been a member of TB since 2007. I tend to frequent only two or three forums. Having said that, I have come to "know" a few names and will always click on their posts, as they tend to be informative and interesting.

Personally, I dont feel any more (or less..) of an outsider there than I do here on BC.

Talkbass is like going to an Arena gig, where as BC is like seeing your mates band down the pub. Yeah, the sound is crap, plus some silly begger is talking all the way through and right in the middle of it they stop everything for the meat draw, but it's a lot more fun.

I like scanning the range of sub forums there, some good people over there as well and some pretty entertaining threads every now and then. The luthier, band management and gig stories threads are often worth a look.

I suppose it's natural that a site of that size lacks the community feel that makes BC what it is though.

Eeeeh.. I've been on since 2002. That surprised me.

It gets a bad rap on BC, but I like it. It has a huge user base so the number of idiots increases, too.

There's a lot of specialist knowledge on there, but TBH I prefer BC as a community. For me, TB is for discussing stuff that's happening over there before it gets over here, really.

The sheer size of it makes threads grow super long, super fast which is a bit rubbish for me because I like to read in a linear fashion like I do here. But I do find it useful when searching for a particular nugget of info. Not fussed for the "club" thing either.

I like the club thing. It's not a badge-waving exercise... it's nice to know where there's a concentration of people who can answer your question or share their experience about a certain piece of gear, especially if it's not mainstream.

I guess it's just because it's been quite easy to establish myself here as "that f'n rabid Gibson guy" without having to be part of a club

Been a member for about eleven years now.
The Double Bass forum is a great resource.
Yep, it has a big user base, but generally find it quite friendly
and with a plenty of decent Bass drivel.
