Wilco
Anybody upgraded a Jazz with these? If so, worth doing? I'd be particularly interested to know the results if anyone has put these in a CIJ Geddy Lee. Thanks, Wilco
Conan
Not quite answering your question, I know - but I put EMGs in my CIJ Geddy and I'm very pleased with the results!
Wilco
Thanks for the info Conan. I spotted a thread on here about the Entwistle JBXN pickups with neodymium magnets, so have purchased a pair especially as they are so well priced. Hoping the strong magnets will give the bass even more Geddy oooomphh!!
Conan
I've been thinking of some of those pickups myself - so I'd be interested to hear what you think of them in your Geddy...
Marc S
Please let us know what you think about the Entwistle pickups Wilco I'm tempted to try a set in my P bass They certainly are reasonably priced....
bobbytodd
ive put a set into my vmj as well as a gotoh hi-mass bridge and a fully wired bell plate from Kiogan the result is a lovely mellow almost dark tone but if you dig in you get a really nice growl from them.if its crisp highs you want choose some different pick ups.all in all im very happy with them Edited November 25, 2014 by bobbytodd
Wilco
I'll post again once they are installed, but someone is going to give them to me as an Xmas present so that will be early in Jan.
stingrayPete1977
They come as stock in new USA standard jazz basses but mine doesn't have them as the five string version doesn't get them
thebassist
They come as stock in new USA standard jazz basses but mine doesn't have them as the five string version doesn't get them
Yes that's out of order really isn't it? My 4 sounds awesome with them. Have you thought about the Aguilar hum cancelling pickups as replacements?
stingrayPete1977
The stock ones sound ok to me, if anything I'd pop a john East preamp in instead Is there a reason why they cant wind a custom shop version for the 5 string?
thebassist
Would you have to carve up the bass at all to get a pre-amp into it? I'm sure Fender could do the 60s versions for the 5!
stingrayPete1977
No I think you can get it all in there, stacked knobs and the battery in the cavity so its just a matter of taking the control plate off once a year
thebassist
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.... Interesting!!! How are you finding your Jazz? Looks a beaut!
stingrayPete1977
I love it, real Fender and nicely built with a great B string, light weight, looks ace
stingrayPete1977
My ears need a bit of non Stingray training, I find it a bit weird sounding sometimes yet I got great comments from the audience on saturday just using a 1x12 and a little bit in a small pa. geoham
I installed a set in my MIM Jazz (2002). Made a huge difference to the tone, particularly on the bridge pickup - which I originally found so thin sounding it was unusable live.
