Dad3353
Good evening, all... I have decided to promote, each in turn, the compositions presented in the monthly BC Composition Challenge. I shall give my own, personal, view of the piece, in the hope that at least some will be inspired to give the work a listen, and perhaps a vote as their favourite. All the pieces can be heard here... BC November Composition Challenge voting... ... and the 'Play of the Day' here ... ‘Espiatriste’, from Zenitram... Echoing voices talk indistinctly over a background ambient tone; some harmonics and plucked notes precede chords, building up a suspense. This is released by a 'slappy' drum beat, very syncopated; almost breakbeat. A melody comes forward, backed by an arpeggiated sequence and a restrained bass line. The ambient tone intrudes and fades back out, the various elements take it in turn to retire, only to be re-introduced. The beat returns, and the somewhat melencholy melody plays us out, leaving only the ambience, and a final remote voice. An odd piece,in that I cannot relate it in any way to the picture. Was that the intention, or is this independant from that..? Whatever; it's finely composed and arranged, with enough variation to arouse curiosity and maintain interest until the end. The resolution is not complete; we are left slightly suspended at the end. Again, is this intentional..? Very pleasant, and relaxing by its tonality, despite the slightly 'open-ended' finale. The next will feature ‘Saturday Night Diva’, Skol303... Until then... Have a nice day Douglas
