2x18 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 (edited) Another of my much loved but unused Long scale basses! Lovely old Guild B-301 Bass Was originally white / cream ( still visible in control cavity ) but has been stripped ( A long while ago ) and now is natural with an oiled ( Tru Oil I believe ) finish that shows off the Stunning original one piece solid Mahogany body and neck in all its glory. It is all original as far as I can tell -- The CTS Volume pot is dated 2nd week of Jan 1978 and the Stackpole pot for Tone is dated November 1974 plus original Bumble Bee cap and Switchcraft jack. The pickup is original and sounds fantastic! Truss rod works easily and correctly. Serial no. Dates it to 77 or early 78. Still has plenty of life in the frets and is recently strung with a set of Lakland / GHS Flats - Plays really well and sounds fantastic! Comes with an old but serviceable hard case! Weighs a comfortable 4.1 kg. You are more than welcome to come over and try out this vintage tone monster for yourself! ( Very close to J46 of M1 ) Will Edited February 17, 2015 by 2x18

Oldman Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Lovely, I had a Cherry Red B302, back in the '70's. Bump
SpikeBass Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I have a short scale one-off Otwin and would add cash too
SpikeBass Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 it is a 1962 one-off unit that was part of a 3 guitar exhibition that included a 6 string, a bass & a dual neck all in the same style, I have attached a photo. 2x18 Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Thanks for the photos, never seen one like that before -- It looks to be in remarkable condition for a 50+ year old instrument, but its not my cup of tea! Will
andydye Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Really wish I had cash or something to trade for this
andydye Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014
Hi Andy -- I would trade for a 77 or 78 P-Bass Seriously though if you fancy trying the Guild you are more than welcome to come over! -- No obligation Will.
haha, I've literally just assembled the ladies and don't want to separate them for a long while matey 20141203_120848 20141203_120957-1 I tried a b-302 belonging to Tim from Bromhead's Jacket in his studio a while back and it sounded lush so I'm on the hunt once I've scraped some more cash together...
FinnDave Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I had a white 301 in the late 70s, great sounding bass.
bassintheface Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I bought one of these when I was 17. I paid £100 for it as the headstock had cracked - it wasn't an aesthetically pleasing repair, but was solid as a rock. I stripped it back and put clear varnish on it - badly! It still sounded ace though. I eventually flogged it on ebay to a guy in Norfolk (I think) for about £150!! Wish I kept it!!
benebass Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Looks lovely - a beaten-up one of these was my first bass & it sounded great! Bought three basses from 2x18 over the years & he has some great instruments that have been well cared for. Good luck with the sale...
grahamd Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Had a B302 back in the day, great throaty growl and lovely player… sigh
andydye Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 oof £560! tormentor! my poor credit card may hate me...
FlatEric Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I've been watching this from the start and find it hard to believe that it is still here. I have one of these and from memory, quite a few BCers are 301 and 302 owners. If anyone is dithering over taking on this bass, from what I can see it's very nice indeed. If you have nver played one, I think you would be quite surprised. Very punchy, full of depth "Good for Metal" "Great for Jazz"!! Joking aside, this single pick-up bass will suit all sorts of genres (after all a P only has one!!) and will bring a smile to your face. Mine is not heavy and unless you have it strapped right up to your chin, is not head heavy and is very comfortable to play. Had mine out a couple of weeks ago, through the new Genz Benz rig, I bought from PeteTexas, a few weeks ago - Very, Very nice indeed! Someone give this a good home.
2x18 Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Thanks Eric! It is a really great Classic Bass -- Just a pity I can only manage Short scale in my old age! Will.
2x18 Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015
Pm'd
Replied Will.
