One of my favorite Basschat jazz's in all its guises over the years.

Something old & blue - Aria Pro RSB Deluxe II, from 1984.

Bought this new in December '84, was my main gigging bass until the original neck went like a corkscrew in the mid 90s. Neck's been replaced with a similar (but not identical) RSB Straycat version, which is straight but doesn't feel quite right. Still looking for a proper MIJ RSB replacement, then it might gig again!

Jon.

Ooh, I've not seen one of those before. What's it like?
It has the most amazing neck and great balance. Ordering the build and customer care was an absolute nightmare after the two partners in the company fell out acrimoniously. This all resulted in a three year waiting time and almost zero communication - so I have mixed feelings about it.

Here's another shot of its blueiness:

It's a nice looking thing, that's for sure. Don't think I'll risk ordering one, though! :)

It is indeed, well spotted :)

I have one myself, got it in 1994 when I was 16. I can't believe how good they are for cheap ones, nothing has ever tempted me away from it. Great to see another, yours is the first other one I've seen.

Yes I like mine, great for noodling on, bit of a feedback monster when you plug it in though! Has yours got the nice book matched back? There isnt much about them on the net is there, mainly pics of a slightly newer version with a different shaped head and different knobs. I think I paid £250 used for mine in about 1999? I have never changed the strings and the ones on it are not even a matching set :yarr:

Oh yes, my electrics go ripped out years ago, terrible! I used to gig it with a Fishman Rare Earth sound hole pickup and a set of flat wounds, that really did sound amazing. I still have the Fishman but never get a chance to use it. I got mine in around 1994, I was working in Andys and it came in, instant GAS when I was setting it up so I swapped it with Andy for a Hohner Jack. I got to use it the other day when my friend who's leraning acoustic came over for a play.

Mine has the funky looking back too, really pretty, the new ones, and others in that size, sound awful, never did find out how they made these so good and so cheap?

How spooky! And you've kept ashtrays on too! What year is yours?
It's an early '66 (late '65 neck and pots, Jan 66 pickups), all original including LPB finish. Yours looks like a pre-CBS in pretty awesome shape. Is it a '63 or '64?
Btw I read you're into disco and funk so you're probably aware of that local story: in 1975 a couple of American session musicians who’ve known each other for year finish a gig at local chicken-in-a-basket venue The Heart Of The Midlands after backing up an unknown soul singer, and wind up chatting in the Bentinck Hotel (next to the train station in Nottingham}, after one of them’s had his wallet nicked. On the spot, they decide to form their own band. Their names? Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. The band? Chic. True story.
