How would I get this tone

To me, it sounds similar to the Korn bass tone. I don't hear many mids, but I do hear lows and the high frequencies cranked (for the clank).

tune down, heavier gauge strings, no mids. and a decent drive pedal (not too much gain), not my cup of tea but that should do it
i know someone who used a ibanez phat hed PD7 drive pedal to achieve this kind of sound years ago and he pretty much nailed it

Sansamp / behringer bdi21 would do it, just make sure your action is ridiculously low to get the fret clank!
