Funky Dunky
Mods please move this if it's in the wrong place. I'm guessing it probably is! Looking to sell my bass and I was wondering how much to add on for shipping within the UK. Roughly. I'm reliably informed the bass weighs is about 6-7lbs. I swear this is not a sneaky way of drumming up interest, this is a genuine question as I try to draft up an ad.
alyctes
A touch under £20 if you go Parcelforce, IIRC. You could always add £20 and refund anything left over.
Lozz196
Go via Interparcel.com - they insure musical instruments, which is essential in my opinion. For a bass in a hardcase, value up to £500 I usually estimate £25ish.
Cameronj279
I second Interparcel. Always worked for me, even shipping a fairly pricy bass to Sweden once, had no issues.
BassBunny
Another vote for Interparcel. Don't touch Parcelforce, they won't insure musical instruments.
Funky Dunky
Thank you all, I will go with Interparcel. What's the procedure and etiquette when selling a bass, once a price is agreed? Do I build the shipping price in, or advertise shipping as a separate amount eg "£170 + shipping"? Anything else I should know? Never done this before. Thunderbird
I always charge about 20 as it covers the post and packing materials such as bubble wrap and parcel tape
Paul S
+1000 for Interparcel. Adding insurance up to or slightly above the value of the bass can affect the carriage price a fair bit - difference between a £500 bass and a £150 is a tenner or so - you can have a look at the quote menu at Interparcel website and enter different values to give you an idea. molan
If you don't have scales then a decent guess for most basses with packaging is about 6kg. There are very few basses that only weigh 6-7lbs so I'd be fairly certain that's not the correct weight.
