andytoad Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I think he will be a hit there, either that or there are a lot of bottled p**s coming his way! 😄 Quote
sarah thomas Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 As my other half just said 'It's hardly the end of Glasto, is it? They've been having sh*te acts headlining now for years ...' Quote
Musky Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 He's in the slot that's come to be called the legends slot, so it seems to be a reasonable booking. I won't be watching him though, when I eventually get a ticket. Quote
EssentialTension Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 How many years has it been on the telly? Quote
waynepunkdude Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 It's just a place for middle class hippies and hipsters to go 'crazy' for the weekend and tell their mates. Quote

Drax Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Ah Lionel is alright, got a soft spot for him. Given they've had Mumford & Sons headline, that really was end of days Quote

TimR Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 How odd. Considering the price of tickets I'm not surprised at the demographic. Other festivals are available. Quote
taunton-hobbit Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Glasto is a money machine.....s'why Eavis & co called in Mean Fiddler to organise it 'properly' and then saw to it that they got their marching orders (allegedly) along with Vince Power....it's still a good place for a lot of new acts to be (I can recall the Kaiser Chiefs reminding me a bit of Madness, back in the day)....nothing wrong with Lionel (I'm a pensioner you know') Ritchie.......could be worse, could be Barry bloody Manilow ....count your blessings. Musky Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Actually Vince Power was brought in after more people bunked in than paid for tickets in 2000 - MDC were seriously hacked off that Eavis had done little to prevent people getting in for free and busting the official capacity for years. In short, Eavis wouldn't be getting a license under his own name. The deal with Vince Power was for 10 years from 2002 and so came to a natural end. It's still not Eavis's name on the license. Quote
paulears Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 The trouble is that it's the old artistes who know how to work the audience. Glasto is Radio 2, not Radio 1. Quote

Eavis ran the festival with his wife Jean until her death in 1999, and is now assisted by his daughter Emily Eavis. Since 2002, Festival Republic (a company consisting of both Live Nation and MCD) has taken on the job of managing the logistics and security of the festival through a 40% stake in the festival management company.[sup][121][/sup] Each year a company, joint owned by Glastonbury Festivals Ltd and Festival Republic, is created to run the festival, with profits going to the parent companies. Glastonbury Festivals Ltd donates most of their profits to charities, including donations to local charity and community groups and paying for the purchase and restoration of the Tithe Barn in Pilton.[sup][122][/sup] Several stages and areas are managed independently, such as The Left Field which is managed by a cooperative owned by Battersea and Wandsworth TUC,[sup][123][/sup] Worthy FM and a field run by Greenpeace.[sup][124][/sup] The sound systems on site have a total power of 650,000 watts, with the main stage having 250 speakers.[sup][125][/sup] There are over 4,000 toilets, with water supplies including two reservoirs holding 2,000,000 litres (440,000 imp gal) of water.[sup][125][/sup] With the exception of technical and security staff, the festival is mainly run by volunteers. In return for their help, typically around 18 hours over the festival, volunteers are paid in free entry, transport and food, while their charities receive the wages the volunteers earn over the event. Catering, and some retail services, are provided by various small companies, typically mobile catering vans, with over 400 food stalls on site in 2010.[sup][125][/sup] The camping retail chain Millets, and independent shops, set up makeshift outlets at the festival. Additionally charities and organisations run promotional or educational stalls, such as the Hare Krishna tent which provide free vegetarian food. Network Recycling manage refuse on the site, and in 2004 recycled 300tonnes and composted 110 tonnes of waste from the site.[sup][127][/sup] Significant logistical operations take place to bring people into the festival by public transport each year. Additional festival trains are provided to Castle Cary railway station, mostly from London Paddington.[sup][128][/sup] The station operates as a mini hub with waiting shuttle buses transferring passengers from Castle Cary to the festival site as required. This is an intensive operation on the Wednesday and Thursday each year with local bus and coach operators providing these buses over the two days. Additional extra buses normally provided by Go South Coast run from Bristol to the festival.[sup][128][/sup] On the Monday, passengers are transferred back in just one day with additional buses provided to meet the increased requirement. National Express provide extra coaches direct to the festival site from major UK towns and much of this work is subcontracted to smaller coach operators to provide the capacity required.[sup][129][/sup] My apologies for the length...... Quote
Drax Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 (edited) Crying shame the big fence had to go up. Glastonbury was such a diverse festival crowd, the music was just a sideshow. Now its like applying for a green card just to qualify for permission to be able to attempt to be one of the 20% that gets a ticket. Means only the most organised people end up going. Who wants to go to a party full of really organised people? Edited November 30, 2014 by Drax Quote

KevB Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 No more the end than it was when Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton etc filled that Sunday lunchtime slot which is when I understand LR will be on. From the info currently available he is not headlining. Quote
