theCOO
Hi! I recently bought a used 2011 American Standard Jazz Bass. everything seemed fine to start with but then my signal started to randomly distort. after trying 2 brand new leads I figured the problem was the bass. so I took off the control panel and I’m no expert but the wiring does not look right to me. the neck volume control has the white wire from the neck pickup attached. that’s it. the bridge volume control has the black wire from the neck pickup attached, and the black ground wire, and both wires from the bridge pickup, and the bridge wire. 3 short white wires connect the neck volume to the bridge volume to the tone pot to the output jack. seems odd the output jack only has one wire attached to it. I’ve seen a variety of diagrams online so I’m not sure what’s right or wrong here apart from the neck pickup which obviously shouldn’t be attached to 2 volume controls. would this configuration explain the random distortion? any idea why someone has wired it like this? what were they trying to achieve?! thanks! Thunderbird
Could it be a loose wire touching something when you move the bass causing the distortion effect? the output jack should have 2 wires as in the diagram a white hot and black ground any pics as it is hard without seeing or go the easy way ans ask basschats very own Ki0gan to build you a custom loom they are great quality and well priced

sirmuppet
PM this guy: http://basschat.co.uk/user/7835-kiogon/ he'll sort you out with a wiring loom for whatever you need.
sirmuppet
Also looks like all the grounds are going to the 2nd volume rather than the tone. Could be your issue. Was thre a battery under the pickguard?
