Kirky
I've bought cables from OMMB and they're excellent. I've also made my own recently using the same components that OBBM uses - Van Damme cable and Neutrik connectors. I've notice a significant variation in tone and volume between some of the cables I've made despite them having the same components and being roughly the same length. Guess my soldering must be at fault.
bigd1
I've used Monster cables for about 15 years, never had to replace any and quality is top notch. If I was looking to replace I would prob buy Monster again, but if I was looking for a custom size I would go with OBBM . Just because of the recommendation I have read posted on BC for many years, you can't beet a good recommendation. Ta very glad BIGd
BigRedX
If you do a search you'll find that Monster have some very questionable business practices. Personally I'd never buy one of their products.

dincz
After some digging around, it seems the "Zerocap" cable might be legit. The idea is described in this patent application http://www.google.com/patents/US8246384 Apparently it uses the "driven shield" principle which is already used in precision measuring equipment. Don't think I'll bother though.

grandad
Same here !!
Van Damme & Neutrik. Same here, make them up myself. Some of the claims made & prices charged are quite astounding. Edited December 3, 2014 by grandad
taunton-hobbit
This repost is not aimed at anyone specific, before I get (more) hate mail....just sayin'....... Love the link - I'm in retail, at the sharp end (think Leases, Business rates, wages, holiday pay (them, not me),Lighting and heating expenses, local trade association memberships, company transport, accountants, solicitors, bank charges) ....I could go on, but I won't...and some pr*ck has the nerve to grizzle about Radio Shack trying to make a buck? Buy it on the Bay if it's cheaper....off you go and good riddance....just don't winge when your local dealership (which you never bought f-all from) ceases to trade - because, yes, it IS your fault bro........... Unless you're using it at almost absolute zero.

Cable resistance is insignificant compared to both pickup impedance and amp input impedance, so tone wouldn't be significantly affected. Big_Stu
Over many years I bought lots and lots of yardage of Klotz cable from Scayles Music in Edinburgh & lots n lots of Neutrik jacks from Maplins - learned to solder and none have let me down so far. bigd1
The articles on Monster cables seem to say the retailer is at fault not Monster. It looks to me that the retailers are marking up the prices for bigger profit. Monster seem to be in the wrong, and to be honest, can't say I care. 15 or so years looks flippin good value to me, I love um !
peteb
Another one here happily using Monster cables for years. However, I do get all of my speaker cables from obbm...
Drax
Maybe I've a weaker moral compass, but over zealous trademark lawyers, or a high retail mark-up doesn't turn me off a brand. Very pro small companies like OBBM (and will go to there next now I know about them), but if you also use Apple, Nike, Fender, Ford, whatever, there's always something less than wholesome going on behind the scenes somewhere. Life's too short.
