Such a tricky thing to get right, any other colour is easy :(
[/quote]

It is, and you need to be careful of the cheaper WD plates as they looked awful to me.
They are located, iirc. right next door to Sims so I went straight across the road to get one made.
The price difference was around £30 compared to £65... but there was a world of difference
between the two and Sims scanned and cut mine perfectly. The WD ones were off the shelf.
It depends what you are putting it on..??

Thanks for the info, I hadn't thought about truss rods! the neck I have on order has heal adjustment and the body doesn't have an access slot <_<

Just cut one in and sand it smooth
No biggie

I'm not sure what the body is, I'm guessing it's a cheap Squier.

Buy a clear one and print your own background.

I quite like the idea, I might do that on one of my Jazz basses but using an old comic as a background.

But not a jazz mag...

No it would be too much of a distraction :D

I've got some of all of these - real ones, WD, Fender reissue tort and some odd bad printed ones.

The real ones still look best to me, but WD is the best of the bunch after that.

Can't speak on Spitfire as I haven't got one yet - although I have one on order - not a cheap option though.

One of the best pickguards I ever bought was a Stentor red tort. Not cheap by any means but very nicely made.

Normally I'd be up for whatever looks the best but this is a cheap bitsa P I'm putting together so I still have a Precision in the arsenal when I come to sell my '76 I couldn't justify a new WD or Spitfire.

What do you think of the Fender RI one's?

To my old eyes that Stentor looks pretty good, what do you all think?

The Fender ones aren't too bad. Better than most digitally printed ones. They are expensive though, twice the price of the Stentor and look pretty similar from that pic.

If the stuff the Bass Doc used was from WD, then I'd go for that. I had a Bass Doc tort scratchplate for my P Bass that looked really nice, I would have kept it if it weren't for the fact that the scratchplate was so poorly made.

In hindsight I should have bought the WD one instead and paid the extra £20 for one that fit properly.

For reference here's a WD on my Sea Foam Green 65 Precision...

Yep. Sent him my original plate so he could match it up exactly (or so he said), massive gap around the neck and the cutout for the pickup was both really jagged and in the wrong position.

Sorry to hear that :( I've had 3 from him over the years and they have all been spot on

I've had several from Howard and they were all first class.

I really hope and pray he's all right. :(

Me too, there was a thread on here about his retirement due to ill health.

Is that the cheaper or more expensive WD tort?

I don't know to be honest. I've replaced it now with a real tort guard.
