Some very, very nice pieces here! I've been Perving on Shuker basses for a couple of years now and eventually took the plunge a couple of months ago.

I bought the bass a couple a months ago from a really nice bloke called Rob who'd originally ordered/bought the Bass a few years ago, he said he was really sad to see it go but he'd got another Shuker ordered and on the way, a good sign to see people going back for more. :)

Most people have already seen and heard about these but here they are again.
ooh i saw those in the flesh a little while back. i was at jon's workshop for some reason, i think to pick to up my dad's shuker or something like that, and he showed me them. they were nearly finished, and looked really nice! i should've guessed they were going to belong to a basschatter.
Mine will have a dark top when its finsihed! Asian Striped Ebony - which looks like this so far (if we're allowed to post unfinished Shukers!):
Gotta love the striped ebony! It makes a beautiful top. Visually interesting yet not too overstated :)

I remember a build thread by EntropicLqd (I think that was his username) and he had a lefty Shuker built. Probably the nicest build I have ever seen! Where is he?!?!

Here's mine - nothing too fancy. As posted in gear porn a while back. Bought based on recommendations and a phone call to Mr Shuker, who said I could return it if I was unhappy - I'm not - its the nicest jazz I have ever played.

I lurk a lot. Don't really have much to say for myself. Here's some pics (just taken). Hopefully they've come out OK.

The front of the bass is Bimblebox and the back is Coolibah. Jon didn't have enough Bimblebox to do both the front and the back and the Coolibah was the closest match to it we could find. The fretboard is Snakewood.

I'm going to change the pups in mine soon - possibly to EMGs - which models are yours and how are they in a Shuker bass? Jon's recommended a 40CS and a 40P5 for mine. That's assuming they fit the holes left by the departing Nordstrand DCs.

Here it is finished. There's also a pic of it on Jon's homepage at the moment which is nice!

...looks both ways... <whisper>I actually don't know; I've never been able to notice the difference between pups.</whisper>

They are passive EMG HZ pickups; but I don't know what specific model they are (maybe Jon would know if you asked him). However I can confirm that they sound great. Be aware though that I simply run my front and back pups on full volume all the time (unless I'm using an ebow) and use my pedal board to get the sound I'm after.

However, for passive pickups they put out plenty of signal. And based one what I can do with that signal there is plenty of both bass and treble to play with.

Here's the link to mine:

http://tinypic.com/a/yd55/3

I couldn't identify it from Jon's website so I contacted him to ask what it is.

Turns out it's one of his original six prototypes that he made to take to NAMM in 1996.

Arguably, this is the start of the Elite series.

I didn't previously have any very strong opinion about Shukers (despite all the love here on Basschat) and I'm lucky enough to own or have owned some very nice basses. Despite all that, the Shuker has shrugged off any competition Chez Happy and has very rapidly become my go-to bass and first-choice gigging bass.

I'm not sure I could give you a clear, simple reason why. It's just a delight to play, the tone is rich and varied without being obtrusive, the looks are quietly under-stated, the workmanship is simply superb, everything ... works.

:)
3rd post. sorry.
can anyone tell me how this fretboard works? looks like the strings where you'd normally play are only a few mm from the f/board, does that even work?
I played this when I went with a friend who's purchasing a shuker. It's just a flat neck all the way to the bridge, the pickups are under the wood. It feels awesome to play, it's very even.
