badboy1984
I'm thinking about putting p Retro on my bass but my p bass is p bass body with p/j pickup. The preamp doesn't have a blend knobe like the j retro.
hamfist
You can add your own 3 way switch or blend pot before the input to the P-retro. It will work fine then, and you'll get your pickup blend too.
badboy1984
Thats good to know, asking my guitar tech about this atm as well. I never thought of using a p or j retro again (not because is not good). I had 3 bass and the p and j is passive and my musicman bongo is active. I realise I never actually play on the bongo apart from forcing myself to because is paid good money for the bass. I finally decided that I no longer needed it because the P and J suits the type of music I play better so I'm parting that away but I also like to keep 1 active option so decided to add p-retro. pete.young
I just wanted to make sure you're aware that the P-Retro doesn't give you a full active tone stack for the treble and bass controls. It uses the passive treble and bass controls as an input to the active circuit. That allows you to boost the mids, boost treble and bass together (I find it easier to think of this as a mid-cut) and have a bass frequency boost or bright boost.. It's a great bit of kit which really adds a lot to a standard precision, but if you want full active treble and bass you might be better off with a U-retro, or an external pre-amp. badboy1984
The good thing and also a concern for me on the p-retro is the internal battery. The good is that i don't need to mod the bass to put a 9v battery and the bad is how long will the internal battery last as the time goes. The U-Retro is something i was looking at as well but the bass don't have any room to put the 9v battery without routing the battery placement. woodster
I have a P retro with a blend knob and it works well. The eq is a little different than a normal pre amp but I find it powerful and gives me a whole range of tones. The interval battery is great and mine is almost 4 years old and showing no sign of deterioration.
