NancyJohnson
Cool. That's some good info on the Tech 21 stuff. I'm looking at getting the VT bass DI to replace my VT bass. I like the idea of the DI option should I need it. Would you know, if I use the VT bass and not the Oranges Pre-amp, can I still use the DI on the Orange or does that not work since I bypass the Preamp.
From my perspective (Ashdown ABM), I understand that if an XLR gets plugged into the front panel of the head, it'll output whatever the amp is outputting at line level. Generally, sound guys at gigs will take an XLR cable out of the back of the RBI (or side of the BDDI), so you have a choice. Personally, I prefer the RBI/XLR output - there's an XLR knob on the RBI that controls what goes to the desk (so you have a little control of how much bass the crowd get).
i cant remember from my short time owning an orange terror whether the DI still worked with an external preamp (the pre i used had an XLR out anyway) but checking the block diagrams for the amp on the orange website it looks like the DI output comes just BEFORE the effects loop (which seems odd to me?) so potentially might not work with the external preamp. but i could just be looking at it wrong, best course of action is to try it! if you're liking the sound i definitely say go for the VT Bass DI, then no matter where you play or record, you have your sound in one place. sirmuppet
I've bought a VT bass DI last night so should be here tomorrow. No need to use the DI on the Terror, though I will check it out. Just in case I ever have to deal with DI from the head I know where I stand with it. I have to say a huge thank you to you all. The whole idea of bypassing the preamp has opened up an entire new way of getting my sound and it nearly there. On monday I'll be able to try the VT Bass DI and M80 together and see what I can get at volume. Thanks again,
