chriswareham Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 As it was my birthday today, I asked my brother if he'd buy me a cheap Gibson EB-1 or EB-3 copy. I'm a big fan of Jack Bruce's playing in Cream, but could never justify the exorbitant cost of a Gibson short scale. So, my birthday present was an Avon Rose-Morris EB-1 copy: I found it on Gumtree, then my brother sorted out payment and shipping (£60 in total). Neck is straight, action is spot on and the tone goes from thuddy if I pick near the neck to surprisingly bright and twangy near the bridge. I absolutely love it! Quote
discreet Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) Aggghh!! That's my first-ever bass!! Didn't think I'd be seeing THAT tonight!! Strange! Edit: Happy birthday, by the way! Edited December 8, 2014 by discreet Quote
howdenspur Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 My first too! Happy birthday and enjoy! Quote
rungles Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Nice! My first guitar was a Columbus Les Paul. Happy Birthday for yesterday Quote
Freddy Le Cragg Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I had the guitar version of that. Cracking guitar once I replaced the single coild fakebuckers with proper humbuckers. Quote
rungles Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Yeah my Columbus had the fakebuckers too. I was mortified at the time. Quote
Annoying Twit Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Very nice bass. Glad to hear that it's found a loving home. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I haven't even seen a pic of one of these for years, I played one exclusively from 89 to 93! Quote
Bassassin Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Nice example - Avons weren't top of the MIJ heap but most would set up & play nicely - typical good quality Japanese necks & fretwork. I had the exact same bass branded as "Grantson", it definitely looked & sounded the part! Jon. Quote
merlin Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 wow that name brings back the past,I had a Avon Jazz, gigged it to death, enjoy your bass Quote
