dadofsix
If it's marginally playable, and you've really decided to rid yourself of it, why not donate it to one of the area homes for troubled kids. That bass may mean the difference between a child living a marginal, "throw away" life, as opposed to living a meaningful life after dicovering the joy of expressing oneself through music and finally realizing that they can actually be good at something. <><Peace
jjojjas
What he said. I'm unfamiliar with the model & surprised that any 80s Ibby turned out to be a bit crap! Jon.
It looks in good condition from 3 foot away.. The bent neck is the main problem... if I could get another neck I'd probably fix it up. It needs new pots but the pickups are fine. I got them made by a guy that was recommended to me on here years ago called Wizzard pickups. I'd pull them out of it if I got rid of it. Think I'll go for the "in the loft" option until I have more time on my hands or incase I bump into a neck. Bassassin
Now I see the pics - I have seen these before. Did a bit of digging & found an old catalogue, looks like it's '92: http://www.ibanez.co...sary/198/19.jpg Maybe an early foray into Korean-made budget designs, hence the knotty/twisty neck. I had 2 early 90s SR800s, both of which were MIJ and top quality. Still an interesting & pretty unusual bass, I'd definitely hang onto it! J. synthaside
All these heartless folks saying scrap it .... how could you , that is the instrument that sparked your passion :-P My reccomendation would be to hold onto and refinish it properly ... I was in wunjo's on denmark street shopping for new toys .. when i spied An Aria , CAT kind of like aria's take on squire/Epi. For the best part of 400 quid i was disgusted but my first bass was one of these in red - and it has lived in a cupboard sans case for years. This beast is a ply bodied heavy and passive but had a pretty decent neck even after all this time it feels comfy in my hands. refinished horribly away from the stock sparkle red by myself with some car body spray to a horrific purple. (i was 17 and it seemed dead cool .) Right now its in the process of getting a new lease of life courtesy of some nitro-mors and elbow grease. From this ( sorry about the pics i didnt think i'd actually be sharing them ... just documenting stripping it for my sake to this Refinish Im aiming for is inspired by this http://s101.photobucket.com/user/atinder/media/creston2_zps61fa63fe.jpg.html Edited December 18, 2014 by synthaside
Or don't damage it, list it as "good condition vintage original" (not convinced '92 really counts as "vintage"!) and get more money. Wrecking old (ish) basses makes them less attractive to buyers. J.
Yeah, that definately looks to be it, but I got it before 1990.... thats a definite. Maybe a trial production run thing. I think I'll look for a neck or ask a craftsman with some skill what the options are with straightening the neck. There you go...you all just saved it from the skip
