JapanAxe
I going to be 60 on 9th February and my future wife, we marry on 9th March, wants to buy me a new bass for my birthday. We went to see The Who last Saturday and on the way to the gig, popped into Dawson's in Manchester. I was looking at Squier basses but she liked the look of a Gibson Thunderbird in walnut and said if I liked it, she would get it for me.
Does she have a sister? I'll get me coat.... karlfer
Thanks for the reply, I think I'll have to persuade the OH that a Thunderbird is not the best of ideas given the health issues. This thread has given me food for thought. I love the idea of the Thunderbird but it looks like I may have to be a bit more practical. I think a visit to PMT Manchester will be the next more and see what bass I can realistically cope with. Meanwhile, my Bass Collection SB310 will be getting the attention it deserves. Thanks for all the input guys.
Well if you are in Manchester tomorrow pop over to the Flying Shuttle in Bury tomorrow night and have a go on my Bleached Blonde Thumb. 38mm nut, very light weight and up for sale. Genuine offer even if it is a shameless plug Seriously though, good luck with your search.

andysleigh
you could try and find an epiphone classic pro thunderbird, Its got gibbo pickups, and the body and neck are gibson style. so you pretty much getting a gibson for a 3rd of the price. maybe that would even leave you with enough to buy a PJ as well! molan
If you're likely to be playing a lot at home then a T-Bird my not be the best choice as it's not the most comfortable of basses to play seated
