Just picked this up in a trade. I've owned a 3000 and a S2 Headed 5 String before but never a Kingbass.

I'm closer in playing style to Billy Jean King than I am to Mark King but the combination of the 32" scale and the 16.5mm spacing feels really good. I forgot how nice graphite necks are too play too.

The body shape is taking a bit of getting used to and the lower frets feel a long way away due to the placement of the strap button. It's early days though and although I can dial in some great sounds, I do feel a bit of a fraud in playing a stunt bass :)

Here it is with my other recent acquisition; a Fender US 75th Anniversary P Bass. Talk about chalk and cheese...

So after falling in love again with graphite necks I decided to have a bit of a switch around and picked up a 2021 S2 thru neck with a stunning walnut top and it also has the pickups fitted in the same position on the Chris Wolstenholme model. It's absolutely stunning and absolutely spotless too.

Ergonomically it's very different to the Kingbass and feels a little bit more "traditional" to me and my usual Fender derivatives; I feel a lot more comfortable with it on a strap than the Kingbass, but the 32" scale and 16.5mm spacing on the Kingbass is just amazing to play.

Well, Mr. Rob Green has formally announced his semi-retirement and it appears the catalog of Status Graphite basses will cease production. Best wishes to the Status team moving forward! My Buzzard-2 is now priceless to me.

I spoke with Dawn today about an unrelated matter but took the time to pass on my own personal gratitude as well as (I hope) that of the wider bass playing community. I'm sure others did too far more eloquently than I other could: a lovely gracious lady who represents her, Rob and the wider Status family.

Wishing them all the very best in what I hope will be a long fulfilling future :)

My old '90s Series 1 fiver. It was a very lovely thing and I wish I hadn't sold it really, but needs must. :(  That quilted top was a mile deep under lights. I fitted the bridge monorails and new tuners myself after the original black bridge lost a couple of screws and started looking really scruffy. I thought the gold went really well with the woods.

They called it "thru' neck" on the original blurb, but it wasn't -- the set neck only went as far as the neck pickup.

Oh my! I'm loving the CW's, but the S2 Classic with the pickups in the CW positions stands out for me. To me they just look better without a headstock, the shape works really well without a head. Lovely couple!

I took the blue CW to its first band practice last night with the S2, trying to figure out what bass to use tomorrow night (cough streamed online too cough). Fully intending to use it live… but the S2 properly entertains me. Great balance and tone… and less likely to slam my singer in the chops!

Lovely collection there @woodyratm

I used my headed Series 3 last October for a 25 night Halloween residency on an outdoor stage. I brought it home each night (admittedly) but it spent the best part of 6 hours per night exposed to varying temperatures and degrees of damp/ humidity but I didn’t have to tune it or tweak the action once.

Incredibly stable, fantastically built and versatile basses.
