What is the latest gossip with the mk2 kingbass Merton. They must be letting something out now the pictures are in the public domain.
They wanted to do a big launch after MK played it at that festival in Europe, but he won't give it back to let them take proper pics!!

Apparently, as he's (approaching?) 50, Mark decided he wanted a slightly larger bodied bass, plus Rob was never happy with the balance of the headed version of the Kingbass v1. That and the fact they felt they'd taken the mk1 Kingbass as far as it could go with the standard model, Black Beauty, Princess, Retroglide etc... So that brought about the redesign to what is the Kingbass mk2...

Hope that wasn't classified info :)

It'll certainly attract a lot of new business to the company! Not my cup of tea, though. I must admit that the one design flaw (is it with the bass or with us flawed humans?) on the current model is that with the body horns being so short, if you're of a more portly nature (like me!) the neck is angling away from you. I think it's a thin person's bass, LOL! That'll be what the main focus of the shape redesign will have been about, to bring the strap attachment point further to the player's left. Not sure what's going on with the j-type pickups, though. It's going to be even more top endy, but will it lose something? Maybe it'll gain some more grit and a little less bass punch?

Thanks for that Merton. How dare he not give them their bass back. Who does he think he is! Interesting Rob was never happy with the headed KB, I never thought it looked good with a head. Just my opinion of course but then I am a great fan of the headless principle. Just so logical.

Just what are you trying to suggest here, Rich? Is this aimed at anyone in particular? :)

LOL! No one in particular, in fact, mainly me! I can't get along with the playing angle of the Streamline either, beacuse I'm too fat!

Rich.

I should give Rob a call at Status. I saw a post on one bass forum about a JD with a similar problem which was sorted at JD. Might also be the time to think about fitting a graphite neck to the bass.

Yeh, nice basses. The new stock basses that caght my eye most were the walnut and cocobolo faced S2s. They just look fantastic. Bit like your cocobolo S2 Rich. You lucky man. :)

Hey Jay, I think it was no.4 which Rob wanted either £4k or £4.5k for. Can't remember which! It's the only one of the four that's been out on tour with Mark.
