Also away from standard is extra bass and mid sweep knobs. It also has blue front and side LEDS. First rehearsal with ti tonight and if all goes well first gig with it tomorrow night. As far as I know, the graphite used for Status necks these days is a lot more flexible than it was in older graphite necks.[/quote] Not had to use the rod in my Streamline yet, even when moving up from 30s to 40s but it did use to tweak the rod on my, now departed Jazz with a Status fretless neck to get fine relief adjustment. I've played several graphite-necked basses (not just Status) where the relief was completely wrong for me, and as above there is the issue of changing string gauge. Yes, you can take the frets out and have the board planed but isn't it just easier to have a trussrod? FWIW the myth of forever-stable graphite necks is exactly that. Of my 4 Statii one had a warped neck, and I mean [i]warped[/i]. I've also known owners of Zon and Modulus basses amongst others that have had similar problems. But is that not the Matrix body shape? Possibly a one off custom graphite bodied Matrix with soapbar pickups? Anyway, here are a couple of shots I have of the Series 2 that will be travelling to me soon. I hope the previous owner doesn't mind me using them but they are better than my usual naff iphone efforts! Quite simply one of the most beautiful Status basses I've ever seen. I have dreamed of owning an 80's Series 2 for years, but I never thought I would find one with a maple facing like this. It's the best look for them, IMO, the contrast between the black graphite and lighter wood looks amazing and it really brings the accent line and the chamfered edge next to the bridge to life, much better than similar models with say, a walnut facing or another dark wood; not to say that they don't look great because they do! If so, that comment is very much appreciated as that Series II is one of the best I've seen so I see my bass is attracting compliments from those in a position of knowledge and taste! I am listening to my Level 42 records in time for it arriving on friday and I think I will give it a good playing when it gets here. It hasn't been played since it last went to Status so it should be cleaned to perfection and set up excellently, as the last keeper has merely held the bass and not played it. The all graphite finish is pretty unusual though on an early headed Status and could well be a one off, although Rob is now making headed all graphite S2 Classics if you specify. Edit: I would date it at '93 because the bridge doesn't have slots in, you have to feed the strings though a hole at the back.... I might be wrong though! As Rich (Out To Play Jazz) suggests ones which are foam rather than wood encased in graphite. Harsh? Thank you. That's what I want. Virtually unlimited cutting brutality on tap. I don't have to use it and I frequently don't, but it has enabled me to have the requisite amount of cut when I need it in demanding situations. I've never experienced this from any other bass I've tried other than all graphite ones. When I tried a Mark King (which was the graphite skin version) it just didn't have it though it was a fantastic bass. Even when I played a normal S2, it just wasn't the same. Hey, I'm biased. I love my buzzard. Plus I thought the Stealth I tried a few years ago was great as well. I fully suspect that I'm in a minority of one with this statement, but this is what does it for me.
