Certainly he was quoted to have said of Beetlebum "I want Noel to acknowledge it is...closer". I think he's right. There's definitely a Macca vibe on the bass too. All in all one of their standout tracks for me and a deserved no.1 I believe Oasis may have been the subject of the term, though the song is mostly about heroin use: "And when she lets me slip away She turns me on then all my violence is gone Nothing is wrong I just slip away and I am gone..." "When Claire was DJing and wanted to go to the bar or to toilet or whatever, Andy would take over for a bit and all he ever played was Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Gary Glitter." "You could always tell when I'd taken over," Eldritch confirms "because on came the Glitter." (2) 'The punk and post punk scenes of Leeds and Wakefield had long been closely connected. Wakefield punks were regulars at The F Club gigs and those of Leeds were often over for the punk and Bowie night at Raffles nightclub on the Bullring in Wakey. Eldritch for his part went over for the Gary Glitter show Keenan put on at The Unity Hall in Wakefield.' (3) 'This first classic line-up was heavy with pseudonyms. Matthews' reference to Treasure Island – Ben Gunn – lacked the outright hilarity of Pearman's mash-up of Socialism and Glam Rock – Gary Marx. Taylor's choice was a Philip K Richard-referencing declaration of his own literary sensibility and speed consumption – Andrew Eldritch. Arguably the drummer had the best name of all: Doktor Avalanche, allegedly named after a Swiss football referee.'

I guess The Beatles are cooler than Slade when you're trying to sell records, so they tried to sound more like The Beatles with each passing record. I preferred it when the sounded like Slade.

A lot of his bass lines sound like flats to me. I've done a bit of research into this over the last few days. This was the clearest image I could find. Red silks at the ball end of the string and black silks at the head. Sounds like flats (going off recent performances) but the two different string colours is puzzling. Labellas maybe?
