Well as everyone has an opinion on set lists I thought it about time we had a set list thread? I am not worried about bands nicking our ideas, I did not write the songs and there isnt many anyone would want,Lol

So general guidlines are a brief description of the band and then the set in order or just a list of what you have to fall on should you need it.

First band is my trio, electric drums but jobeky ones that look like real ones with a V drums module for various kits for various genres we do, guitar/vocalist with a range of Variax guitars and a midi synth, myself on bass, double bass or EUB if it is a small venue. More of a small pub or muso venue band.

Superstition-Stevie Wonder
Singing the blues- Guy Mitchell (DB)
Chain Gang- Pretenders
Everything I own-Bred version (DB)
Peaceful Easy Feeling-Eagles (DB)
Mystery Song- Status Quo
Get it on- T rex
Dakota- Stereophonics
Aint no sunshine- Bill withers (DB)
Up the junction- Squeeze
Down down- Status Quo
Life in the fast lane- Eagles
Baby jump- Mungo Jerry (DB)
Take it easy- Eagles (DB or elec bass)
Alright now- Free
Teenage kicks- Undertones
White wedding- Billy Idol
Chasing cars- Snow patrol
She sells- The Cult
Tie your mother down- Queen
All that I have- snow patrol
Crazy thing called love- Queen
Headlong- Queen
New york new york
Merry christmas- Slade
Auld lang syne

plus some i have probably forgot?

Band two is a 4 piece, drums/lead vocal, female lead vocal, guitar/BV, me just on elec bass.
More of a party/wedding/vibrant pub band (hopefully).

Monkey man- The Specials
Valerie- Amy Winehouse
Play that funky music- wild cherry
Dont get me wrong- Pretenders
you are all that I have- snow patrol
Brown eyed girl- Van morrison
One way or another- Blondie
Please dont make me cry- UB40
You really got me- Kinks
Please please me- Beatles
Baby come back- Equals
Mustang sally- I know I know..
Dakota- Steroephonics (both bands neither my choice)
Brass in pocket- Pretenders
Town called mallice- The Jam
Amarillo- Tony Christie (he lives local to where this band operates)
Everything I own- Reggae version by Ken Booth
Bring me your cup- UB40
3 little birds/buffalo soldier mashup- Bob Marley
Get Lucky- Daft punk
Sit Down- James
Teenage kicks- Undertones
Gimme some lovin- Spencer Davis
Use Somebody- Kings of leon
500 miles- Proclaimers
Maria- Blondie
Hard to handle- Black crowes

And again some I have probably forgot!

Makes you wonder how many songs you have learnt and forgotten, I have 3 gigs shared between the two bands in less than a week and I will be playing them all without a stand just in case you were wondering,Lol.

Both bands are having a clearout and some fresh blood next year but there you go anyone else care to share their thoughts on that lot or even their own set for riddicule? :D

My band are a three piece, we are a 'pop goes punk' sort of act, we do bespoke versions of rocked up pop stuff, plus a few straight covers, mainly 90's alt stuff. I'm the vocalist and guitarist (which is weird!)

We've been going three years (same amount of time I've been playing guitar, we started when I started trying to play guitar and sing after 25 years on bass!)
Weve done lord knows how many gigs, around 250+ at a guess.

This isn't quite the full list, but it's most of it.
We're proof that you dont need to be a great guitarist or singer or muso to entertain people and make a paying, regular gigging band.
It's simply about the songs, mostly power chords, simple rearrangements, keep the good bits and make it fun.
Our bass player is a very simple player, and I'm a newbie to guitar/vox, but it's been a blast so far!

Hahhah. It's a full on rock version :)
that reminds me - weve been asked to do a wedding in january and they have a couple of requests - one of which is possibly the most aweful cringeworthy song ever written arranged and recorded - so we are going to do a slightly more upbeat kicking 'p!nk' style version of it

Why Thanks :) it's rough and ready, but a great fun night out, the drunker folks are the 'better' we get ;)
If it works it works, the drummer from my originals band from the days when we had hair and dreams has been doing a similar thing for years, slightly more rock and indie based than your list but they do some abba etc but all 15bpm faster than the record, no nonesense just a great night out with people up dancing from the off! Some members here would turn their noses up because the bassist hasn't got the exact tone for this or that etc etc, they even have a stand for some songs but I doubt they care what the musos think playing to a packed room of often advance ticket only punters!

It's a great way to do things, by my standards of bands I've been in/would play bass for we are rough as nails, but amazingly I've had more success and pay doing this and it's acoustic incarnation in the last three years, than the previous 25 playing bass in polished quality acts.
Joe public just prefers this it seems!?

Last band had a fair share of Radiohead songs altho we would only ever do 2 at any one gig.. 1 song per set.
A couple fo Muse tracks as well...
We mainly tried to find songs from songwriters so Chrissie Hynde and Starsailor featured as well.
We got most popular when we uprated to some 90's songs from the like of Killers... as well found the older
people could listen and enjoy upto that date rather than the younger kids listrening to the 70's for example..in
any sort of numbers, but the whole set/audience demographic is fascinating.
I just wanted to back our song judgement more and give the set a bit of thought... rather than go for a populist
set straight off... As we have to play them a lot more than the audience listens to them, so they have to do something for us..
And this is my point in another thread...

Hard to handle- Black Crowes

anyone else care to share their thoughts on that lot or even their own set for riddicule? :D
As a geezer, it always makes me just a little sad to see that tune credited to the Black Crowes. Great song though, and oddly enough the BC arrangement is about the only version I've never played.

Other than that, your set list is pretty similar to a few bands that work a lot around here. It'd be all about the vocals as far as the ceiling for gig quality. My song list? Mostly the Real Book, version 5. Most of my other calls these days are original soft jazzy rock/blues stuff.

Sure, perfectly reasonable and I wasn't meaning to pick at you about that. I'm old, to me "Cocaine" and "Call Me The Breeze" will always be JJ Cale tunes, "HTH" an Otis Redding song, etc. I've pretty much always been primarily into the jam band or jazz scenes, never into covers that are all that well defined by one given arrangement or performance.Vive la difference!
