pete.young Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 We have a gig this NYE, first time for a lot of years. How do others go about stopping in time for midnight, and what do you do about playing the chimes from Westminster? Radio? Fake it with a keyboard sample :-) ? Quote
bertbass Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Stop 5 minutes before midnight, bar staff also stop serving so that they can celebrate as well. Chimes on Mini disc. Set watch to exact time. Press play on mini disc player at exactly 27 seconds to midnight. Done. Quote
Graham Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 We'll be hooking the pub's TV up to the PA and then finishing at five to twelve so everyone can watch the countdown and fireworks on the TV and then back on after twelve with New Years Day by U2. Quote
TimR Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 At around 5-8 minutes to midnight the next song is "Mustang Sally" or some other easy blues tune that everyone knows and you can cut short or extent at a signal from the band leader. About one minute to midnight the band leader signals a stop. The band stops at the next turnaround. The singer then strikes up some banter until the chimes. Quote
tauzero Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Pubs often stop serving shortly before midnight and restart shortly afterwards. Find out when they're doing that and announce it. Stop at some prearranged time before midnight. Use BBC iPlayer Radio on your phone to get Radio 4 (other radio stations are available). Put it through the PA. Play "Auld Lang Syne". Start final set. Our last song before midnight will be "Midnight Hour". Quote
Count Bassy Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 BBC I-Player or a digital radio fed via the PA. Radio 4 is traditional for us us. Quote

KevB Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Easy for us last night, left it to the DJ then went on after him for our third set at about 12:15 Quote
