sbrag
Inspired by having no money post Xmas and the impending Football transfer window, how about a bit of fantasy football style bass shopping? Scenario is: you have a gig tomorrow and no kit but £1000 budget and access to anything for sale (inc. pending and on hold) in the BC market place what do you buy? Rules at least: 1 bass, and 1 combo minimum Effects, Tuners etc still have to come within budget No maximum amount of stuff or minimum spend Assume you get cables and peripherals like that as part of your deals Other than that the world is you lobster! My choices are: Westone Thunder 1A £140 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251882-westone-thunder-1a-matsumoku-mij/ Genz Streamliner 600 £350 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251575-genz-benz-streamliner-600-inc-gb-carry-bag/ Barefaced Compact £350 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251707-barefaced-compact-gen-1-with-roqsolid-cover-for-trade-or-sale-on-hold-pending/ Korg Tuner £25 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/250295-black-friday-pedal-sale-bbe-opto-stomp-compressor-mxr-m80-boss-ceb-3-bass-chorus-korg-dt-10-tuner/ £865 spent, £135 for beer and chips! leschirons
The Ibanez Promethean combo for £375 Bipbip's Yammy RBX JM6 string for £400 £225 left for a rather nice meal and a hotel room after the gig (There's a keyboard player at the gig so once I've explained where G is, I'll get a tuning note off of him) Edited January 2, 2015 by leschirons
theyellowcar
Good thread. I would go: Fender Aerodyne Jazz for £499 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252308-fender-aerodyne-jazz-bass-mij-near-mint-l499/page__pid__2644737#entry2644737 And this Ashdown EB180 combo for a BARGAIN £75! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252252-ashdown-eb12-180-evo-ii-for-sale-only-l75/page__pid__2643535#entry2643535 Easy! icastle
I'm more of a practical person than a fantasist, so I'd go for: christhammer666's Ibanez SR-505 - £300 (http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248955-ibanez-sr505-mint-condition/) I've used these for years now and I'm not looking for a surprise. Conan's Hartke LH500 amplifier - £180 (http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251005-hartke-lh500-amplifier-in-rackbag-now-l180/) I'm a bit 'old school' with amps and don't want (or need) graphic equalisers and loads of buttons. Having been a Hartke user in the past I'd consider this to be a pretty safe bet. Gazm's Peavey Pro 410 700W RMS 4x10 Cab - £325 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/250826-peavey-pro-410-700w-rms-4x10-cab-with-cover/ Not the poshest or lightest cab in the world, but a good 'no frills' workhorse with plenty of bang for your buck. James's Lexicon MPX500 - £125 (http://basschat.co.uk/topic/250627-lexicon-mpx500-l125/) I really can't be dealing with pedals on the floor, but I do use a smidgen of digital Chorus so this fits the bill nicely. That leaves me about £70 for a tuner. I've always gone for the cheap and cheerful Korg type ones. They're usually less than £20 new and don't appear in the Marketplace very often, so it looks like I'd have to go find a music shop somewhere for that. I reckon I could get a bag of chips and still have about £50 left for a spare set of strings and a guitar stand.

timmo
There isn`t much choice being a lefthander. I think there is only a choice of 2 , as the others cost over a grand. The other costs £700, so only one choice if you want a big rig and pedals

Paul S
If I can have a fantasy back as well: £140 Westone Thunder 1A http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251882-westone-thunder-1a-matsumoku-mij/ £275 Ashdown Spyder 550 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251031-fs-ashdown-spyder-550-l275/ £525 Barefaced Super 15 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252453-fsft-barefaced-super-15/ I reckon that would make some noise. Roland Rock
Hmm, I think I must have expensive tastes. There are only one each of bass, head and cab that I'd really want from the marketplace, and they total £3,850! If it was a hurried buy for a gig on a 1k budget, I'd go for: Bass Collection 5 string £250 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251490-bass-collection-sgc-nanyo-315-5-string-1991/page__pid__2646781#entry2646781 Carvin head £300 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251659-carvin-bx700-lightweight-flexible-powerful-head-on-hold/page__pid__2644931#entry2644931 and the BF Compact £400 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/250971-ft-barfaced-compact-2nd-generation/page__pid__2643330#entry2643330 Total = £950 Should do the job nicely :-) Edited January 2, 2015 by Roland Rock
molan
Bass is an easy choice for me. I don't know what the gig it just has to be a Precision as that'll cover any gig. Best one I could see within budget is the funky Roger Waters model at £500: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252457-fs-fender-roger-waters-signature-precision-immaculate-condition-l500/page__pid__2646616#entry2646616 Again, without knowing the gig I'd look for a flexible but powerful head with plenty of tone-shaping options. There's not a lot out there that's well made and has a strong gigging rep so the Carvin BX700 does it for me: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251659-carvin-bx700-lightweight-flexible-powerful-head-on-hold/page__pid__2644931#entry2644931 For cabs I'd look for a good all rounder that I know can handle a lot of gigs with ease and isn't overly coloured. This Aguilar GS112 looks a very strong contender (although it may now have gone!). http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251551-aguilar-gs-1x12-nt-l200-traded/page__fromsearch__1 Edited January 2, 2015 by molan
John Schoen
Fender Roger Waters Precision for £500: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252457-fs-fender-roger-waters-signature-precision-immaculate-condition-l500/ Ampeg BA115 combo for £130: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/250895-fs-ampeg-ba-115/ The Roger Waters Precision is a great bass and you can't go wrong with a Precision and an Ampeg amp. The remaining £370 could get me a car to drive to the gig.
blue
I think I already have every bass I've ever wanted except for a Rick. Amps I love my GK rig, If I ever buy another rig it will be some sort of configuration from Orange. Blue

tauzero
Dammit, why is no-one selling a Peavey 5-string? Bass Collection 5-string (I've had one and they're great) £250 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251490-bass-collection-sgc-nanyo-315-5-string-1991/ TC BG500 combo - I'd hope that the sound was as good as from the RS112 I used to have £275 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/249840-tc-bg500-210-combo/ That's £525. With a bit of negotiation, I could finish up with £500 or more left. I'd spend most of it on women and drink, and waste the rest.
timmo
I spent lots of money on the bass, cause i just love these, and this is a real steal for the price in my opinion.
