wotsy
This is quite interesting... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roland-G-88-Philip-Lynott-Bass-Guitar-Synthesizer-Controller-/321630979768?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4ae2b346b8
Kiwi
Interesting - not much to back up the provenance considering the asking price is nearly £2000. Also if it was me in would have cannibalised another G88/G77 for the electronics rather than install an updated set.
kodiakblair
I remember Phil using the G 77 with Grand Slam, but it was more a stage prop. The electrics were whipped out to make it lighter. But having a Google this morning unearthed this Don't know it it was a promo shot though. Ibanez made the G77 and G88 for Roland and Phil was an endorsing artist for them. Woodinblack
In hindsight maybe Phil shouldn't have had a plate put on the back with 'Phil Lynott, 1949-1986' - it was asking for trouble. Still the wood screws on the brass are a nice touch.

Bassassin
Sounds somewhat suspect to me. I'm inclined to think it's nothing to do with Lynott other than a "tribute" based on the fact he is known to have used a version of this bass. As far as being a collectable MIJ rarity is concerned, all those non-original & non-spec parts just detract from its value. As far as I know, Roland guitars & basses were made by Fujigen Gakki, I think through Kanda Shokai (Greco, Fender Japan etc) rather than Hoshino Gakki, who own the Ibanez brand. Jon.
