Jono Bolton
I'm looking for a good quality replacement bridge for a Fender Jazz that ISN'T a Badass or a Gotoh 201. It's a Mexican Jazz Bass, so the screws are 5 in a row. I've currently got a Badass II on it, but it's an ugly f***er, and I've had a Gotoh 201 on it too, but I didn't like it very much, I found it didn't sustain well. The Badass does the job very, very well, but I'd prefer something more traditional looking, the Badass doesn't fit in with the aesthetic IMO. Any suggestions? budget bassist
I wonder if you'd be able to get hold of one of the new fender high mass bridges? Fender seem to sell all the rest of the components of their basses apart from the neck and body! Jono Bolton
I had a look at the Fender bridges but they're for through-body stringing, which the Mex is not. I don't fancy drilling through the bass either, and I'm far too broke to pay a luthier to do it at the minute.
budget bassist
Can you not have through body and just regular stringing on those bridges?
BassBunny
I have just built up a homage to a 62 P Bass and managed to experiment with a few bridges. The one that worked best IMHO was a Wilkinson Vintage Bridge. Same 5 screw fixing and is heavier, (more sustain), than the stock Fender one. Has Brass Saddles so looks the business as well. Got it from Axes R Us, ( I think), and was only £14 delivered. Edited August 10, 2008 by BassBunny
Jono Bolton
I spied those Bassbunny, I was tempted but as they're aren't as chunky as the likes of the Gotoh and the Badass I wasn't sure if the sustain would be any good, even with the brass saddles. They are indeed from Axes R Us, a great little site, I do most of my parts buying from there. Great service too.

The Burpster
Hippies are ace, as are Schaller. Maybe not what your after but they will make an improvement to the instrument as a whole...
doctor_of_the_bass
+1 for Schaller! I love the old ones, the 3D job with string space rollers! Nick

I think it''l be hard to find something that will improve the sustain and sound of a stock bridge but also keep the trad aesthetics.
Jono Bolton
Does anyone know if the Squier High Mass Bridges are available to buy? Particularly the one with brass saddles on the Classic Vibe Jazz, that looks alright.
OutToPlayJazz
I'd go for one of the new Fender/Squier high mass bridges. The one on my 08 Precision seems very sturdy and sounds great.
nick
I put one of these on my old Tokai P-Bass http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HARD-TAIL-BASS-GUITA...86.c0.m14.l1318 Like yourself don't like Badass & couldn't get hold of a Gotoh at the time. Works well Edited August 14, 2008 by nick
JimBobTTD
I just bought one of the bridges in Nick's link above. If you look around on Ebay, you can get them for £10.99. I got mine from twin--cam in black. He has one in gold listed here. I'm sure if you ask him he can dig one out in chrome or black.
