Drax Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) I've always had a soft spot for the bass playing on The Christians - 'Words' Syrupy 80's blue eyed soul, but great songwriting and the fretless tone and line is beautiful. Can't find anything online (he's competiting for airspace with Sister Sledge bassist Tony TNT Jones AND Christian theologist Tony Jones) Does anyone know anything about The Christians bassist Tony Jones? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfcDJNElrl4 Edited January 5, 2015 by icastle Link Fixed. Misdee Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I don't know anything about Tony Jones, but the bass on that track was played by Pino Paladino, so it's not surprising that it's rather good. Quote
scalpy Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 That's blinking marvellous. Not sure the video has stood the test of time but the bass playing is sublime. Quote
paulbass Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I liked this band back in the day, some really good basslines on some of their stuff...great vocalist as well. I never knew Pino did this bassline though and i'm a massive fan of his! Learn something new everyday! Quote
tonyf Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Absolutely loved that album. I did photography at uni and we used to spend hours in the darkrooms with this blasting out. Get the "phantom" smell of developer, stop bath and fixer now listening to this.... lol Quote

Wonky2 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 These boys were from just up the road from me... Great band.... Quote
kevvo66 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) ain't heard that for years , still a great song Edited January 6, 2015 by kevvo66 Quote
The Admiral Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) Saw them last year on a heritage act triple bill with Go West and Hue and Cry. They were excellent and the singer (Gary?) has still got it. You also forgot how many great songs they had. I bought a copy of the 'Colours' cd from Amazon the day after, and it got some heavy rotation at home. Love the video! Is that Port Isaac? Looks like they walked past Doc Martin's house at one point. Urban Bassman Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 This was one of the very few times I actually bought a single CD. It's a great song, never hear it on the radio and yes, fab bass playing. One of the great "lost" songs. Thanks for the post. Quote
Phil Adams Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Loved them at the time, bought the first two CDs but haven't listened to them since they murdered Harvest for the World. Quote

Misdee Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Is indeed a great track. However I should point out that the melody is actually a beautiful traditional Irish tune called "Women of Ireland", so the Christians have had a bit of help in that respect! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BqKromsDOk Quote
Sure is Port Issac. It's near the beginning at 0.54 when they are walking down the path towards the main part of the the town. Doc's house is on their right. iconic Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) Holy Thread Resurection! Just been playing along to Harvest For The World...having a 5 year old its that time of year. So, been listerning to their old classics, always liked them back in the day, When The Fingers Point, Hooverville, Forgotten Town but where there is some footage of the bass player from the 80's playing the original bass player is on various Fender 4 string Jazzs. But, that glorious bass tone seems to me, a 5 string, 4 string thru an Octaver or maybe bass synth'? Whatever its bloomin' lovely https://youtu.be/LjEla5Lw_TI https://youtu.be/dssA5ApFbo0 PS did they have Bass Octavers back then when it was all fields 'round here? mike257 Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 An excellent bass player friend of mine (who I believe is a member on here) does a lot of their gigs these days, think he's one of two guys that they use regularly, so he'll be well versed in knocking this stuff out! Quote
funkgod Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) yep, they are still going strong, did a gig with them a couple of months ago ( backing) in frodsham out door fest, sound as good as ever, If you get the chance try and catch them live, they also do some nice versions of songs worth catching. well done lads keep going.
