Lado? No, me neither until I bought this bass :D It turns out that JK Lado make high-end boutique basses in Canada. Highly respected bass makers with equally highly respected basses! Steve Harris is a long time player of Lado basses. To find a Lado bass in the UK is like the proverbial rocking horse excrement! I bought this Studio Custom 4 because not only does it look superb but it simply exudes quality. The Lacewood top is sublime with a through neck design, PJ Bartolini pick-ups and a 2-band active pre-amp (Vol, Pan, Stacked Bass/Treble). It is a 34" scale with a 42mm top nut and 18mm string spacing at the bridge (string centres). It has a very shallow neck (back-to-front) and, as such is so easy to play. The bass weighs 4.3kg and is very well balanced either standing or sitting.
The bass has just had a full, professional service and is fitted with Elixir 45-100 strings. The Lado comes with a fitted, plush-lined hard case.

Blimey, haven't seen a Lado for a long time!
First came across them at the Frankfurt trade fair in the early 80's.

Very high quality instruments.

Glad someone else has heard of them :D I have found some sound samples from Adrian Davison who uses Lado basses: http://www.adriandavison.com/cd.html Check out Alibi or Dorian's Mode - Sounds good to me!
