The 60's vs 70's pickup positions were relevant for passive basses and did change the sound of the bass.

These Sire basses are active which removes most of the pickup position issues.

I'm not sure that is entirely true.

I was thinking that myself...

Has anyone got hold of one of these yet? I'm intrigued about the playability and build quality. They sound and look good (especially the ash/maple ones, I reckon), but could they be too good to be true?...

Yes Andy, you may well be right. A certain German retailer were showing that they were due to take delivery on Monday and are now out of stock, suggesting they've sold the first batch already. Until we see evidence however...

I've just solved my 5 string problems, something special arriving tomorrow...

But the White Ash one of these is still on the list - if they're all they're cracked up to be.

The only thing that's budget about this bass is the price. If this bass was made in the USA or the UK it would cost three times what it costs now. I have a 5 string and every one who has seen it is blown away by the overall qaulity just as I was and the pre if sold alone in the states or the UK would not be cheap.

Here's a video clip of it.

Thomann have the V7 5 strings in stock apparently, tempting price. Has anyone got their hands on one yet?

These look fantastic, especially at the price point. I'm very tempted by the 5, shame the bridge pickup isn't in the 70,s position :)

This may seem an odd question but, how much do they weigh? I can't find any mention of weight on the Sire site.

I am sorely tempted. The spec seems great for the price
