Mohawk Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Hello everyone! First post here, hopefully not the last one I'm not a bassist (although I've played in few bands as a "low frequencies manager"), I play guitar and I'm looking for some advise, as I want to get myself a nice bass for recordings and who knows, maybe for live as well. Beware, I will be asking loads of stupid questions Quote
discreet Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 That's OK, this is the home of stupid answers! Welcome to the forum. Quote
Mykesbass Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Welcome! Hang around here for too long and we'll soon have you become a bass player who dabbles on guitar Quote
organic Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Having just bought my first one myself, I guess the main thing has to be the same as with guitars, go to a shop and try as many as they'll let you. Quote

JapanAxe Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Welcome Mohawk! I suggest a trip to Wunjo Bass in Denmark St to have a look at the Squier range of basses and whatever else might be in your price range. Quote
Dad3353 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Good morning, Mohawk, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Lots for reading, learning and sharing here. I'm basically a drummer, and so proof that they'll let anyone in. Ignore the guitarist jibes; they're bass players, and don't know any better. Some of 'em are almost OK. Quote
DaytonaRik Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Hi Mohawk - good to see another guitarist pretending to be a bass player on here Quote
gadgie Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 The story sounds familiar. Only been trying this for a few months, but already got a few basses....................argghhhh! I'm loving it to be honest. Quote
Phil Starr Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Welcome, I'm a sound engineer pretending to be a bassist. Takes all types Do you have a budget in mind? Quote

Marc S Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited)
This isn't the dark side.... This is those enlightened ones that have seen the light Welcome
Welcome indeed And as Spacechick says - it looks dark from over there, among the higher frequencies .... but it's actually the lighter side of the two My advice re a bass is, try as many as you can As you've played before, you'll have some idea of how to try a bass out Just go for something that is comfortable to play, and you'll enjoy playing more EDIT: You may be surprised at just how different they all play, feel & sound... I reckon you can't go wrong with either a Squier Vintage Modified series bass Or even better, a Squier Classic Vibe bass I've had both, and can't recommend the China-made Squier Classic VIbe 60's bass enough - awesome! Good luck in your new venture .... see, we don't bite after all Edited February 13, 2015 by Marc S Quote
