Brother Jones
I've owned three post-2001 US Jazzes (a four string Deluxe, a five string Deluxe, and the 2012 Standard which is currently my main squeeze). Each has had exemplary build quality (I've owned Sadowskys too) and a lot of newer features (graphite rods in the neck, body stringing option, better bridges, better pups) that I really like. Compared to a lot of 70s Js, they've been better built, better equipped and more consistent.
Telebass
I've owned three post-2001 US Jazzes (a four string Deluxe, a five string Deluxe, and the 2012 Standard which is currently my main squeeze). To me, this is the main point. Fenders are vastly more consistent in their quality than they were. That there's some dogs around is due to sheer quantity rather than poor QC. The Mexican P I've played since 2004 blew my 75 into the weeds, with ease. The bitsa twins that I play now are just amazing. But, if you don't like ' em, you don't. Each has had exemplary build quality (I've owned Sadowskys too) and a lot of newer features (graphite rods in the neck, body stringing option, better bridges, better pups) that I really like. Compared to a lot of 70s Js, they've been better built, better equipped and more consistent.
Telebass
Well, that managed to insert my reply into the quote, but I'm sure you'll all work it out!
gsgbass
I was doing ok with a Jazz, and a Precision until I played a 2015 Gibson Thunderbird with the EB style pups, and mini-toggles. The Fenders are gone.
KevB
I still have the 2003 American S1 jazz I picked up on EBay about 8 yrs ago (for under £400 with SKB hard case!) and also think the build quality is first rate. I've also picked up a 50th anniversary precision (2001) in the last couple of years (from a fellow BC'er) and I can't fault the build on that either. Also had a US P deluxe from 2003 and that was excellent too, possibly the best neck out of the three. It's obviously a ridiculously small sample but from what others have said on here in various other threads I get the impression that by the early 2000's Fender USA were perhaps going through one of their better, more consistent manufacturing periods?
