NBD: Fender Japan FSR 62RI Walnut Jazz Bass

Hi folks,

Called into Promenade Music in Morecambe yesterday as I saw they've just got one of these in stock. Had my eye on them for the past couple of months, so once it had arrived, I needed to check it out. It has an Ash body and rosewood board and it really kicks it out. Sounds nice and powerful and it was setup great thanks to Gary at Promenade. It seems these are relatively rare in the UK and I think this one is from one of the first batches to come here. Few other places now have one or two in stock.

Neck is maple, but is finished in Walnut, so combined with the chrome/black hardware, it's a really dark looking bass, but looks great IMO. I was worried the lacquered neck might make it bit sticky to play, but it's fine. Single ply matt black pickguard really sets it off too. Not sure on the weight, but it's light, and the grain in the wood is really beautiful. Getting a slight bit of hum so might shield it in the future, but nothing that can't be sorted easily.

Can't recommend Promenade enough for excellent service and stock. Good chaps in there.

Very nice looking thing. I don't usually go for lacquered necks for the same reason as you mention (stickiness) but the matched finish looks really classy on this bass.

I've got the body from one of those on a bitsa at the moment. Keep thinking about selling the body but it looks so nice will prob keep it. Looks stunning mate :-)

How many pieces is the body made from? Wunjos has one with a 2 piece, though It looks badly matched at the back but fine at the front. Correct me if I am wrong, but pretty sure its an ash body stained walnut?

Mines a 3 piece, but matched pretty well. Yeah, it's Ash with walnut finish.
