teddyt Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 well i have just brought a (cheap) P-bass. To tinker with, it has a bad humming issue and volume/tone ajustments make no difference. so tomorrow i will pull it apart and check for grounding issues hopefuly i can fix it myself Quote
teddyt Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 and what would give me the best bang for buck improvment on sound??? Quote
Subbeh Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Strings and a setup will help, you'll get the best out of what's already there. Failing that maybe pickups or preamp. Quote
Twincam Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Strings and setup first > Pickups (something like a seymour duncan spb3 quarter pounder) > Electrics (all new loom, pots, cap). Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 As mentioned, strings, set-up, and as it has humming/buzzing, new electrics and shield the cavities/back of pickguard with copper shielding tape. Quote
teddyt Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) well i got the bass yesterday, was late so i tried it on rocksmith and could find no hum/buzz?? today i plugged it into a bass amp and there was a slight hum but not too bad. twiddled with the tone and volume controls fast back and forth. and the hum has gone!!! so i am guessing a faulty pot?? should be easy fix has now been cleaned up came up like new not bad for £30 Edited January 15, 2015 by teddyt Quote
