The last 2 albums I've bought have been soundtracks from relatively recent films: Never Let Me Go and Under The Skin - in both cases they were films I'd avoided and was pleasantly surprised when I did see them and was struck by how much of their effectiveness came from the music.

A fair few of the albums I'll reach to put on are also soundtracks.

Does anyone else have original soundtracks they listen ?

Things they enjoy in relation to a film and independently of it.

I saw heat when it came out in the cinema and the music and sound stayed with me for a long time. Great stuff!

The there will be blood gets a good rotation on my headphones too.

I'll check out the other names that have come up so far. It's been a while since I've listened to goblin.

Cool!!

I regularly listen to the Bladerunner soundtrack. It's very atmospheric.

Oh and don't forget The soundtrack to 'Superfly' by Curtis Mayfield. A work of funky genius.

no doubt. so atmospheric. and so perfect, for the scene that it comes from. great disjointed jazzfunk that is so well played and written. its all in the build up. a musical score genius of the era is Lalo Schifrin imo.

Countryman was a 1982 film with a soundtrack by Bob Marley and Lee "Scratch " Perry produced by Chris Blackwell on Island Records .
This was in the days before Midi , I remember being blown away in the cinema by the soundtrack bit between 34:45 and 37:10 , they must have synced the synths to tape somehow . A very different , new Marley sound at the time .
-Mind you, smoking was allowed in cinemas in those days ....

I bought the OST to a film called "Uptight" not very long ago. It was the only recording I could find that had the original unedited version of "Time Is Tight" on, which was how Booker T originally wrote it. The track has a melancholic intro and play out on it

The album also has a keys only version of it, which IIRC has Cropper on piano to Booker's Hammond (Tank's Lament).

The story of the film is one story among the fallout from the assassination of MLK, riots, further murders, accusations flying etc. The band were actually using a hotel room to record in, in the same hotel, at the time of the shooting.

I do love a soundtrack. Much of the above, plus

Beverley Hills Cop OST - Patti Labelle, Junior, Shalamar!

Woman in Red - Stevie Wonder

Batman - Prince

Virgin Suicides by Air

Truman Show OST has some great orchestral tracks

Heat - much mentioned, esp Philip Glass

More recently Daft Punk - Tron was pretty good
