leftybassman392
Good to see a second shout for 'O Brother Where Art Thou'! Dunno about anybody else, but I'm choosing soundtracks because they fit the movie (even if it's music I wouldn't normally listen to). Here's my next one: https://www.youtube....3Ps5-92t8eRf98m As a guitarist with a background in The Blues (like a lot of my baby-boomer colleagues I dare say) it saddens me to say that 'Crossroads' is not one of my favourite movies, but this soundtrack hits the spot perfectly. (At least the bits that were actually in the movie do ) Edited January 15, 2015 by leftybassman392
Rumple
The edited single version was their second biggest hit, the full length I don't know what happened with it, or whether it has any rarity value.
Maybe my copy is the edited version.

51m0n
Lalo Schiffrin is THE don for me too (my whole band are hugely influenced by his work, and that of Roy Budd) Since we've seen a tiny bit of Schiffrin, here's some of my favourites Roy Budd themes:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_n9WfCJmbM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-Fc31-WIt8 And just one more from Lalo Schiffrin:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JMc1jwYQkI

ubit
Not a movie , but the series Hemlock Grove had an amazing soundtrack. We always had Shazam on whilst watching it, some really good obscure bands were found in the watching of this great series

BigRedX
Good to see that there's still a lot of appreciation for soundtracks that are specifically scored to fit to the film and not simply a collection of someone's favourite songs shoe-horned around the dialogue. I have to admit though I own a lot of soundtrack CDs for some very awful films that have been bought simply because they contained a track by an artist I liked that wasn't available anywhere else. HengistPod
Last of the Mohicans, with Daniel Day Lewis. I like it so much that I regularly nick bits of it to put on home movies when I'm editing them up. Same goes for Blade Runner (and lots of other Vangelis stuff, for that matter). Cosmo Valdemar
Anything by Goblin, particularly Profondo Rosso and Suspiria. Alan Price's songs from O Lucky Man Air's soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides is gorgeous - one day I'll get round to watching the film! I've got lots of compilations of various wonderful scores from the old Hammer films but regrettable few complete soundtracks. And of course, Queen's Flash Gordon and A Kind of Magic, which ih the Highlander soundtrack in all but name. Gimme the prize!

Brilliant soundtrack - both the few 3rd party songs selected, and the epic work from Cliff Martinez. Works so well in the film as well. Zane Lowe's arrogant reworking of the Drive soundtrack gave me hives. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2M7xfhDYK4f9MDfBbR5zxHj/radio-1-rescores-drive
Mr Arkadin
+1s to Goblin and John Barry. Anything bt Bernard Hermann, particulalrly Psycho, North by Northwest and Vertigo. Solaris by Cliff Martinez. Anything by Philip Glass, particularly Koyaanisqatsi, Mishima and Candyman. The weird metal samples on Full Metal Jacket (by Kubrick's daughter apparently) and the synth classical madness of A Clockwork Orange. Jerry Goldsmith, especially the little-known Mephisto Waltz and the tribal Planet of the Apes. Louis and Bebe Barron's Forbidden Planet (credited as Electronic Tonalities rather than music score). Herbie Hancock's Death Wish OST and Quincy Jones' The Anderson Tapes for the weird synth stuff. I'll probably think of more later, I love soundtracks. Skol303
Dammit, late to the party as usual and most of my favourites have already been bagged! Those would be Bladerunner, Harder They Come, Wicker Man and O' Brother Where Art Thou? So I'll add...

Moon (the main theme is just beautifully simple)
Akira (classic Japanese manga with a stunning soundtrack that utilises human voices)
Easy Rider ("Nick, nick, swamp!")
Edited January 15, 2015 by Skol303

ezbass
I'm a big John Barry fan so Dances With Wolves and OHMS feature very highly for me. In addition, the Casino Royale soundtrack by David Arnold is very nice as he is channeling Mr Barry. Top Gun has a great collection of songs, but not what I would call a proper, bespoke soundtrack. mickster
+1 for Lalo Schiffrin & Morricone, although Enio also couldn't help descending into some overly sentimental pap in amongst the good stuff. My vote goes to John Zorn's The Big Gundown: http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-big-gundown-john-zorn-plays-the-music-of-ennio-morricone-15th-anniversary-edition-mw0000192585 Zorn's reinterpretation of the soundtrack to the Spaghetti Western. Bill Frisell, Vernon Reid, Toots Thielmans all given the Zorn treatment; what's not to like?

KevB
I've always liked the soundtrack to 'Continental Circus' but I have never seen the film. dadofsix
I love soundtracks and have great respect for the artistry required to properly meld music with the scene in a movie. Interestly enough, my son introduced me to a sountrack last night. It was to the movie "Almost Famous." Nancy Wilson's short composition "Cabin in the Air" has just smitten him. The artist Howard Shore with his work on Lord of the Rings (and to a lesser extent the Hobbit movies) has always moved me. That's music to pour a glass to, turn out the lights, and just listen, to make the world go away for a time. Another master at that is James Newton Howard with the soundtrack to the movie King Kong. Say what you will about the movie, his compositions were masterful -- especially "Central Park" near the end of the movie. The joy seen demonstrated by Kong in this scene, knowing full well what's coming soon after in the movie, can be gut wrenching. To this day, when emotions of the day are "jangled," it can still bring a tear to the eye. <><Peace Edited January 15, 2015 by dadofsix
FinnDave
Another favourite of mine is the opening to Aki Kaurismaki's Rikos ja Rangaistus (crime and punishment). I met the singer when he played near my home in Finland a few years ago and he speaks no English at all! https://www.youtube....h?v=qkgujWgU1xI The song is great but the opening of the film could be disturbing for vegetarians.
