1978 American Fender Precision Bass. Made in the Fullerton Factory, California, CBS era.

Looking for £900.

No trades thanks.

Good few dings on this, have a look at the pictures. But expected of a bass this old.

The scratchplate is in two pieces, and comes apart round about jack input, but isn't a problem when it's screwed on. Easy to replace though if you wanted to.

It's had a respray to the Olympic White that it is now. Really professional job by Dave Wilson Guitars. There is a graze on the paint near the pickup where I had a thumbrest glued on. The pictures make it look a little more white than it is - it's more of a cream colour.

It's pretty weighty, typical of a late 70s P I believe. About 5kg (going from bathroom scales). So about 11lb I'd say. I think that the advantage of a heavy bass though, is a really heavy tone! Loads of sustain and richness to the sound.

Original pickups have been long since replaced with Dimarzio PAF pickups, a pretty common upgrade for basses of this era. Wonderfully loud and punchy!

The bridge has been replaced with a Badass II, which I think gives it even more sustain, but I have the original bridge too which I'll include.

The pots have also been changed with CTS pots. I believe the originals were slightly faulty in some way, but I have them to include also.

Has both original strap pins.

Setup with a fairly low action, so it's a joy to play.

Comes with a Hiscox hard case.

The reason I'm selling is that I'm simply not using it. I play my Gibson Grabber pretty exclusively now, so I'd rather it go to someone who'll love it.

Would prefer collection from my house in Poole, Dorset. But I'd be willing to drive a reasonable distance to meet at buyers expense.

Thanks for looking!

That pickup must be a DiMarzio or aftermarket lookalike, to my knowledge Fender never done adjustable poles pickups, specially with white p/u covers. Only white p/ups Fender did was in the 80's no poles exposed either, on those Fender Precision Specials with active circuitry.

This is what the pickups look like. To be honest I don't really know beyond this - I can't find a serial number, or anything that says Dimarzio or otherwise. They look pretty old to me, and that covering in epoxy idea is pretty retro, is it not?

Can anyone in the know help?

They are Dimarzio PAF pickups. Very good pickups indeed. A lot of people put these in Fender basses in the 80s.

They are indeed. Back in the day the 70s basses were just a few years old - a long way from the vintage status they have now.

This particular mod is not a bad one at all - these pickups have a good re-sale value now in their own right.

I remember the old stock Fender pups literally being thrown in the bin when replaced with these!
